Book nowWhat is a spa day?
While spa days will vary by venue, they generally include one or more pampering treatments, plus full or limited access to the spa’s leisure facilities, such as a swimming pool and thermal suite. Often, a spa day will include extras, such as an afternoon tea, evening meal, light lunch or drinks. Most will offer complimentary use of a robe, towels and flip flops, and there may be a chance to purchase extra treatments or spa products on the day at a discounted rate.
If you want to bag a bargain spa day in the UK, take a look at our latest spa deals. For even more pampering, we also offer a wide selection of spa breaks, which feature overnight accommodation and, often, breakfast, as well as spa access and treatments.
Types of spa days
While many of our spa day packages can be enjoyed as anytime treats, we also have packages designed for specific occasions. For example, we offer Mother’s Day spa days and packages aimed at pregnant guests and groups. We also feature couples’ spa days, which can be enjoyed with a loved one. Some are tailored for romantic partners, while other packages can be enjoyed with a friend or relative. If you’re a man seeking relaxation (or know a man who is), take a look at our men’s spa packages. These packages offer treatments suited to male guests and access to facilities including a steam room, swimming pool and gym.
How long is a spa day?
Again, this varies between the different spa day packages. For a full spa day, the arrival time is usually 9am or 10am and you may be free to use the facilities up to 5pm or 6pm. Any treatments will be scheduled to take place during these hours. Of course, you are free to leave early if you wish. It’s advised to arrive a few minutes early, as you might need to fill in some health and safety or medical paperwork.
We also feature half-day spa packages. These have a morning, afternoon or evening arrival time. They usually offer around three or four hours of spa access, and may include afternoon tea or a light lunch. Evening spa days are often called “twilight” spa packages and are a great way to enjoy some after-hours pampering. These packages usually have an arrival time of 5pm or later, with spa access to 9pm or so. Some of these packages might include an evening meal, snacks or drinks.
Our individual package pages usually indicate an arrival time, but we would advise confirming this with us or the spa ahead of your visit, so you don’t miss out on any valuable relaxation time!
What to take on a spa day
While you will have access to a private locker in which to store personal items during your spa day, we recommend leaving valuables at home. Spas are electronics-free spaces, so you cannot take your phone into the treatment rooms or communal spa facilities. Items you might like to bring are a change of clothes, swimwear, toiletries, gym clothes and a book (for relaxing by the pool).

How to dress and wear your hair for a spa day
You can wear what you would like to the spa (loose, comfortable clothing is best). On arrival, you will be asked to change into a robe. You can wear underwear or swimwear underneath. If you plan on using the gym, bring suitable exercise clothing and shoes. At some spa hotels, there might be a dress code for the restaurant. So, if you’re dining at the hotel as part of your spa day package or as an extra treat, bring some smart clothing with you. Tying long hair back is recommended ahead of certain treatments but otherwise, you can leave it loose.

Spa day treatments to try
On your spa day, you might have the chance to enjoy one or more treatments that will leave you feeling refreshed, relaxed, and pampered. Some of the most popular spa day treatments include:
- Massage: You will find massages offered as an optional or inclusive treatment as part of many of our spa days. The back, neck and shoulders massage is a common choice, but you might have the option of a deep tissue massage, full-body massage or head massage. There are also special pregnancy massages.
- Facial: Again, there are lots of different types of facial, which target different problems and skin issues. For example, there are anti-aging facials and those designed to brighten the skin. In addition, there are specific facials for male skin and for pregnant guests.
- Body wrap / body polish: These are luxurious spa treatments that are available with selected spa day packages. The body wrap works to condition, detoxify, tone and tighten skin, while the body polish uses a gentle, natural exfoliant to smooth the skin and give your body a radiant glow.
- Manicure / pedicure: A firm favourite among spa-goers, especially those who would like to indulge in some lower key spa pampering. Our spa day packages usually feature the choice of either a manicure or pedicure, which each have similar stages. You might also see the shorter file & polish offered as an option.
