The price of a one night stay in Britain’s capital on New Year’s Eve, 31st December is expected to increase by an enormous 81%, with some charging near £500 for a basic double room. But with Airbnb providing a more homely and sometimes cheaper alternative - which borough should you stay in to get the best deal?
At Spaseekers.com, we’ve analysed the average cost of a one night stay in an Airbnb using AirDNA data on a double room on New Year’s Eve in London, and mapped out which borough is the priciest when it comes to a one night stay.
Everything costs more on New Year's Eve. London is one of the top European destinations for tourists looking for a destination to see in the New Year and like everywhere else, prices are hiked up.
The heatmap above demonstrates the average cost for a one night stay in a double room at New Year in each borough of London.
Unsurprisingly, the central borough of Westminster tops the table with a whopping average price of £331. Fancy a “bargain”? Get yourself down to the cheapest borough, Bromley, with prices remaining at a more affordable £133, but requiring a much longer journey.

Following Westminster at number two is the smallest borough, Kensington and Chelsea at £328.72 for the night and in third place is edgy and creative Camden at £291.
Taking the middle road are boroughs such as Hackney and Havering, results showing an average price of around £216.
Tourists looking to stay in the centre of the action might need to get saving. For Airbnb stays in Westminster, close to tourist hotspots such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Oxford Street, visitors will be looking at an average price of £235 for the privilege of a short commute.

The fireworks
It goes without saying that the highlight of New Years in London is the fireworks on the London Thames at Victoria Embankment and South Bank. The UK’s biggest firework display with over 100,000 people attending last year, is a ticketed event if you want to get up close. However, you can get the tube to Chalk Farm, Camden and head 76 metres up to Primrose Hill to watch without spending a penny.
The New Year’s Day parade
For the last 33 years, there has been a New Year’s Day parade featuring colourful floats and 10,00 performers going through London bringing with it over half a million spectators. The parade starts at 12pm at Piccadilly and heads down Regent Street, through to Trafalgar Square and finishes at Parliament Square.
Getting around while being money savvy
Catch the tube for free
If staying near the main attractions is a bit pricey, rent accommodation further out and make the most of the FREE TFL travel between 11:45pm on New Year’s Eve and 4am on New Year’s Day. Also worth keeping in mind that most tube services will run through the night, so no need for taxis costing the Earth.
Park further out and get the tube in
If you’re planning on driving in, parking further out and getting the train or tube into the centre will save you extortionate parking fees.
