About

Mood-lifting. Health-boosting. The Akasha Wellbeing Spa in East Riding of Yorkshire offers more than just pampering. With a yoga studio, dreamy zen garden and more Ayurvedic rituals than you can point a scented candle at, spa days here leave you feeling re-energised. But stay overnight in their luxurious retreat cottage, and you’ll leave feeling born again.

So what makes Akasha Wellbeing so special? There’s its charming setting, for starters. Found in the pretty East Riding of Yorkshire village of Welton, this Grade II building dates back to the 17th century. Once a barn for shire horses, a four-and-a-half year refurb makes ingenious use of original features. Ancient bricks and fireplaces mingle with stylish design touches for an instant feeling of harmony.

Then there’s the incredible attention to detail. From the deliciously-heated electric treatment beds to the wallpapered ceilings (so you have something lovely to gaze at while you’re being pampered), everything has been meticulously designed to aid you on your wellness journey. Treatment rooms are themed around the five elements - like the blue ‘water’ room, home to Hydrotherm massages that take place on warm-water-filled cushions.

Melt into an Ayurvedic massage in the grounding ‘earth’ room, enjoy a spot of yoga then keep the bliss going with a trip around the heat and hydro experiences. Indoors there’s a juniper-infused steam room, a sauna with infrared panel and an experience shower. More watery delights await you in the garden, with its alfresco hot tub. There’s even a swimspa if you’re feeling energetic.

Want to make a night of it? They’ve thought of that too. The Akasha Retreat Cottage sleeps five people, so it’s perfect for a nurturing getaway with friends. There’s plenty of sightseeing to do nearby. Head to Hull for shopping and nightlife, or dive into the ocean depths at The Deep submarium. History-lover? Beverley Minster and St Mary’s Church in Beverley are must-visit landmarks. Or just enjoy the great outdoors by walking the Yorkshire Wolds National Trail.

The Spa & Wellness at Akasha Wellbeing Spa

Whether you want a full day of holistic self-care with friends or a quick escape that’s just for you, Akasha Wellbeing Spa has got you covered. Lovingly refurbished, this period property’s tranquil surroundings are ready and waiting to transport you to a world of relaxation.

Step into the double-height reception area, flooded with natural light, and instantly feel your shoulders drop. Natural materials combine with rich, harmonious design touches to create a contemporary calming retreat where comfort abounds.

Time for a treatment? Although you’ll find luxury pedicures and Elemis facials, time spent at Akasha Wellbeing offers something more than just sheer indulgence. Its Ayurvedic wellbeing ethos offers a holistic experience that lingers long after the massage oil’s been washed away.

Rituals here promote balance between body, mind and spirit. With each therapy room designed around one of the five basic elements of life, nothing beats an Ayurvedic body massage in the Earth Room, laid on a heated therapy bed. Or try one of their signature Hydrotherm massage in the soothingly apt Water Room.

The quiet room beckons for a post-massage nap, but don’t sleep for too long. You still have the indoor thermal spa with its sauna, steam room and experience showers to try. But our tip? Book an outdoor experience. Nothing beats an alfresco hot tub or swimspa session in Akasha’s zen-like spa garden.

The Gym & Fitness at Akasha Wellbeing Spa

You’ve soothed your soul with a treatment. You’ve relaxed your mind with a swim, sauna and steam. Now it’s time to nurture the health of your body, and Akasha Wellbeing Spa has everything you need to help you do just that.

But you won’t find any drill sergeant-style instructors yelling at you to “feel the burn” here. At this calming retreat, the emphasis is on gentle well-being and being kind to yourself.

The dreamy yoga studio has an incredible breadth of different practices to choose from. Warm and inviting, you can take your pick from yin, beginners, hatha and pregnancy yoga. You might even find meditation and mindfulness sessions to try. Classes are subject to availability and need to be booked in-person, in advance.

Feeling more energetic? Reconnecting with nature as you exercise feels easy thanks to Akasha’s superb location in the picturesque Wolds Way village of Welton. The Yorkshire Wolds Way is a 79 mile walking trail through some of the most tranquil and gentle countryside in England. You can walk the Trail at any time of year, but the poppies look spectacular in June and early July.

Restaurants & Food at Akasha Wellbeing Spa

Ayurvedic practices emphasise eating mindfully and savouring each bite - and that’s easy to do when you’re eating at Akasha Wellbeing Spa. You won’t go hungry or thirsty here!

Many spa packages include a graze-box lunch or afternoon tea, served in the serene surroundings of the quiet room, the garden cabin or out in the sunshine. With a choice of tasty sandwiches and vegan and vegetarian options available, you’ll enjoy these as part of your relaxing spa experience.

Here on an overnight stay in the Akasha Spa Retreat Cottage? Your luxurious home for the night is just a few minutes’ walk from the well-loved village pub. Called the Green Dragon, this refurbished 17th Century coaching inn is said to have been a favourite haunt of highwayman Dick Turpin! Cosy and characterful, it serves British classics with a fresh twist.

You can opt for a meat, vegetarian or vegan savoury graze box, packed with picky bits.

Is there a swimming pool at Akasha Wellbeing spa?

Water baby? There’s no swimming pool at Akasha Wellbeing Spa as such, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to practice your breaststroke! Nestled in the spa gardens you’ll find a unique swimspa. This self-contained unit has a built-in current system that allows you to swim on the spot. Ingenious!

There’s also a separate outdoor hot tub, or head to the indoor thermal suite which boasts a sauna with an infra-red panel, a scented steam room, and a refreshing waterfall shower experience.

Where is Akasha Wellbeing Spa located?

You’ll find it in the heart of the East Riding of Yorkshire village of Welton, right next to the historic Green Dragon pub. Welton is just 12 miles from the attractions of Hull.

Great for a group on a glam spa getaway, the self-catering cottage has two double bedrooms and sleeps a maximum of five. A true extension of your spa experience, you’ll find tea and coffee, wine, milk and snuggly towels and robes.

Is there a couples’ treatment room at Akasha Wellbeing Spa?

There sure is, and it’s a thing of beauty. At Akasha Wellbeing Spa, each therapy room is designed around one of the five basic elements of life - and the couples’ room is the Fire Room. Or, for the ultimate treat, how about an ayurvedic 90-minute body massage for both of you?

Is the Akasha Wellbeing Spa family-friendly?

Children under 16 can’t use the thermal experiences or have a treatment. But children older than four are welcome to stay with you in the Akasha Spa Retreat cottage if you’re here to make a break of it. There’s plenty for them to do nearby, with all the excitement of Hull city centre on your doorstep. The Deep, Hull’s huge aquarium with its underwater tunnel, is just a 20-minute drive away.

Is Akasha Wellbeing Spa accessible?

Yes it is, with accessible parking and a ground-floor accessible toilet. You can request a ground floor treatment room prior to booking, and staff are on hand to assist you. Tri-fold electric treatment beds can be adjusted to let you get comfy. Just be aware that there’s no wheelchair-friendly access into the swimspa pool or thermal suite.

Is the Akasha Wellbeing Spa dog-friendly?

Sorry, no dogs allowed in either the spa or the Akasha Spa Retreat cottage.

Is there a golf club at Akasha Wellbeing spa?

Love to pamper and putt? Sadly there’s no golf club at Akasha Wellbeing Spa. But East Riding of Yorkshire is a fabulous place for fans of the sport. A six-minute drive takes you to Brough Golf Club, an 18-hole course that played host to the PGA Seniors Championship in 1990. Or try the golf course at Cave Castle Hotel, a stunning course set within 150 acres of picturesque countryside.
