About

Like your spa hotels to make a fabulous first impression? Head to Aberdeen’s Ardoe House Hotel & Spa. With its pointed turrets, original wood carvings, mosaic flooring and stained-glass windows, this 19th-century baronial pile looks like something out of a fairytale. Snuggled in 30 acres of picture-perfect countryside and surrounded by highland cows, It’s hard to believe you’re just three miles from the buzz of Granite City.

The former home of Aberdeen soap baron, Alexander ‘Soapy’ Ogston, Ardoe House is perfect for those craving a wee bit of Scottish hospitality. Crackling fires and sweeping staircases come as standard - as do the 80 different varieties of whisky on offer in the Whisky Bar. But alongside the traditional trappings you’ll find plenty of modern comforts - like Ardoe Health Club with its huge pool, Jacuzzi, rock sauna and steam room.

Ardoe House is set back from the River Dee, yet you’re just a caber-toss from Aberdeen’s galleries, museums, bars and restaurants. The Aberdeen Art Gallery and Maritime Museum are must-sees, and there’s fabulous retail therapy at Union Square. Prefer to get out in the country? A stay here puts you in pole position for Royal Deeside’s castle country. Both Drum Castle and Crathes Castle are within easy reach, and Balmoral’s just 45 miles away.

Back at Ardoe House, the Drawing Room beckons for bountiful Scottish breakfasts and decadent afternoon teas. Head to Soapies Brasserie for a cocktail in front of the fire before a decadent evening meal at Blairs. And when you’re ready to call it a night, you can float off to bed in 120 bedrooms crammed with modern touches and a hint of authentic Scottish charm.

Time for a ritual? Wrap yourself in your fluffy towel and robe, then pad through to one of Ardoe House’s four tranquil treatment rooms. Take a moment to breathe the scented air while therapists work their magic. Treatments here come via organic brand Ishga, using sustainably harvested seaweed from the Hebridean islands. Rich in minerals they’ll do wonders for your skin - and your state of mind.
