Got fitness goals? Crush them at the Aztec Hotel & Spa. Its gym has all the machines you need for a proper workout, with state-of-the-art features and technology to help you get the most out of every session.

Crammed with the latest Technogym equipment, you’ll find cardio machines like treadmills, steppers, cross trainers, rowing machines and exercise bikes to help you strengthen your heart and lungs while burning off your brunch. 

Once you’re warmed up, head over to the resistance area to build strength and muscle with chest press, chin up and bicep curl, along with cable machines and leg press. Finally, there’s a flexible space for conditioning that lets you swing those kettlebells and work out with medicine balls. 

Alternatively, you could just head to the 13m swimming pool to swim laps, before some me-time in the sauna, steam room or spa pool.

Called the Curious Kitchen, it really is something special thanks to enticing dishes and a calendar of events all cooked up by a team full of passion and enthusiasm. It’s so dynamic, no two visits here will feel the same - you can see why it has been awarded two coveted AA Rosettes.

With a seasonal menu that changes four times a year, everything’s made from scratch. Behind the scenes the team is hard at work infusing their own mayonnaise with smoked jalapeños, preserving their own lemons and making their own bread, along with smoking, curing and pickling to ensure each ingredient is always at its very best. 

In fact, they’re so proud of their food and cooking skills that the hotel holds masterclasses every Saturday, where chefs showcase their expertise with guests.

Inside the restaurant is beautifully contemporary, with artworks giving a nod to its Bristol heritage. But on sunny days, the Curious Kitchen comes into its own with a covered terraced area, surrounded by greenery and ponds, complete with ducks.

Begin your day with the à la carte breakfast menu filled with waffles, American stacked pancakes and eggs benedict or choose something set, like the Northern Breakfast with its black pudding and sausage wheel. Also on the menu are breakfast cocktails like a mimosa or bloody mary - the perfect way to start the day!

For dinner, why not choose something from the chef’s table? Choosing this option as either your starter or main course lets you pick from a table groaning with salads, home-cured fish, seafood and delectable meats.

If you can’t relax unless you’re lying next to a tranquil, azure rectangle, you’re in luck. The Aztec Hotel & Spa has a gorgeous indoor pool that’s beautifully lit and flanked by comfy loungers. At 13m there’s plenty of space for lengths, floating like a starfish or just lounging around and finishing your book.

Yes it does, and all the rooms are really cosy and comfortable. Forget hotels that look luxurious until you find the shower doesn’t work. The Aztec Hotel & Spa have focused on getting the most important bits right. 

From Signature Rooms to Premier Suites, all categories boast a comfy bed, pillow menus and a shower with real power. There’s also big TVs, colourful wallpaper, proper teas and coffees (with fresh milk from a vending machine in the corridor) and chunky, crumbly biscuits.

You can check in anytime after 3pm, but the hotel will happily store your luggage for you if you arrive any earlier. Check-out time is 11am. 

Yes it is. You’ll find ramps, level access, accessible toilets and parkings, along with facilities for visitors who use a wheelchair and/or mobility aid.

Interested in the hotel’s unusual-sounding name? It’s actually named after its location. You’ll find the hotel in the Aztec West area of Almondsbury in Bristol, a high-tech business park filled with post-modern buildings. The name of the business park is said to derive from the 'A to Z of Technology’. 

More than family-friendly, children are treated like little VIPs here! Book into a family suite and you’ll find a welcome pack, a few yummy nibbles, two single sofa beds suitable for children under 12, along with a big king-size bed for you. They even get their own mini robes! 

Children are charged at an extra £30 per child, per night, including breakfast, cookies, milk from the super-cute vending machine, VILittleP robes and activity pack. 

For families with older children, interconnecting rooms give you the space so you can all chill out in style.

Whilst not located right in the city centre, the Aztec Hotel Bristol is still close enough to make a great base for exploring all the child-friendly activities on offer in the city. Make sure you take in the Bristol Aquarium or Brunel's SS Great Britain - the splendid maritime museum. Closer to home, the hotel is only a 10-minute drive from Wavegarden Cove, the inland surfing lake in Bristol.

Back at the hotel, kids can splash in the newly refurbished swimming pool, anytime in the morning before 11am and then between 4pm to 7pm. The Curious Kitchen restaurant has a brilliant kids’ menu full of family favourites - and even their own afternoon tea.

Yes it is. Waggy tails get a very warm welcome at the Aztec Hotel & Spa, where three clean, cosy double rooms come complete with bowls, beds and dog biscuits to munch on. These dog-friendly rooms can't be booked online, so if you want your dog to come with you on your Bristol spa staycation, you’ll need to give the hotel a call.

A stay here puts you in a great location for wonderful walkies, with the woodland and riverside paths of Oldbury Court and Snuff Mills nearby. And, after a day of adventure, dogs are very welcome in the Aztec Hotel & Spa’s bar and lobby area. Or just get them to sit and stay on the shady outdoor terrace as you dine on the same menu as in the main restaurant. 

There’s not a golf course at the Aztec Hotel & Spa, but Knowle Golf Club is just eight miles away. This AJH Taylor-designed beauty measures 6,000 yards and makes good use of its undulating parkland setting. Expect fast greens, immaculate fairways and plenty of tricky bunkers.
