About

There’s nowhere better than the Cotswolds when it comes to long walks amid stress-busting scenery. But it doesn’t have to be all about muddy boots and tiring outdoor pursuits - not when there are spas as heavenly as the Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds waiting to rejuvenate you.

But while it may have more rustic charm, tempting facilities and signature, organic treatments than you can point a scented candle at, this is more than just a spa. It’s a chic and sustainable holistic haven that’s laser-focussed on nurturing the wellness of your body, mind and soul.

So what makes Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds so special? First, there’s the unique location. The spa nestles in a converted barn on arguably the most iconic farm shop complex in the world - Daylesford Organic. The spa, the farm and the entire village of Daylesford are privately-owned by Lady Carole Bamford, the whirlwind British entrepreneur widely recognised as a visionary in organic farming, wellness and sustainable living.

Over the last 25 years, she’s transformed the farm into an A-list Cotswolds destination, which now includes a huge organic farm shop, cookery school, boutiques, light and airy restaurants, bars and immaculate courtyards. No wonder the likes of Boris Johnson, David Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Moss grab an oat flat white here whenever they’re nearby.

As such, there’s plenty of eco-conscious (and impossibly glamorous) eating, drinking and shopping to do right on the spa’s doorstep, along with over 2,000 acres of organic farmland to explore. If that’s not enough, the pretty spa town of Cheltenham is a 30-minute drive away. Known for its horse racing and literary festivals, it’s bursting with history and culture.

But chances are you won’t want to tear yourself away from the Bamford Wellness Spa itself. Within these beautifully understated white-washed walls you’ll find curated treatments using Bamford’s ethically-minded products, state-of-the-art wet facilities and mind and movement classes that just add to the zen. Sound bath meditation, anyone?

With stylishly sustainable cottages to book on-site, turning a spa day into a spa stay will be a temptation. But for a real treat reserve a room at the uber-cool Wild Rabbit. Still part of the estate but a 30-minute welly walk over the fields, this 18th-century eco-haven of elegance has be one of the most stylish inns in the whole of the UK.

The Spa & Wellness at Bamford Wellness Spa

If your favourite kind of spa is a super-luxurious, A-list hangout that everyone seems to be talking about, get that robe and slippers on and step right this way. Well, you’re worth it!

Elegantly refurbished and beautifully understated, Bamford Wellness Spa is a piece of pampering heaven nestled in a renovated farm building, far away from the hustle and bustle of the Daylesford Organic Farm complex.

But time spent in this sequestered space offers something more than just sheer indulgence - it’s a wellbeing experience that lingers long after the massage oil’s been washed away.

Step into the double-height reception area, flooded with natural light, and instantly feel your shoulders drop. Soft, white and serene, with touches of green a nod to its organic farm surroundings, natural materials combine with beautiful works of art to create a contemporary calming retreat where comfort abounds.

It’s here you’ll find the wellness café and social hub, The Orchard Bar. Stop by for a fresh juice, smoothie or a nutritious seasonal dish, while you flick through the array of self care and healthy living books. Your nurturing journey has truly begun.

Once cocooned in the comfort of your soft robe, the spa’s bijou wet area beckons. Called The Spring, this ode to the healing element of water offers a wellness hydro pool, herbal steam room and crystal sauna. Immerse yourself in the heated, bubbly water, then lie back on the air loungers while they gently pummel away those aches and pains.

With a fusion of ancient traditions, rituals here combine shiatsu, reflexology, acupressure, assisted stretching, LED light therapy and yogic breathing for a one-of-a-kind experience that will leave you feeling your blissed-out best.

But because this is about your holistic health, you’ll find several beautiful spaces, dedicated to mind and movement classes. Led by world-class practitioners, there’s so much on offer, from yoga and pilates to meditation and sound healing.

After your class, pad along to the tranquil, light-filled relaxation room with views over the orchard, for a herbal tea while you soak up the heat from the fireplace.

The Gym & Fitness at Bamford Wellness Spa

You’ve soothed your soul with a treatment. You’ve relaxed your mind with a sound bath. Now it’s time to nurture the health of your body, and Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds has everything you need to help you do just that.

But you won’t find any drill sergeant-style instructors yelling at you to “feel the burn” here. At this calming retreat, the emphasis is on gentle well being and being kind to yourself.

Reconnecting with nature as you exercise feels easy thanks to activities such as wellness, awareness or restorative walking. Taking place at sunrise and sunset in the Cotswolds countryside that surrounds the spa, these one-hour walking meditations are led by an expert to help you quiet the mind as you work your body.

Feeling more energetic? The spa also lets you improve your fitness levels with the popular Bamford Running Club. This one-hour session starts with a dynamic warm-up, followed by a run through the grounds of Daylesford Farm, and finishing with a cool-down and stretching.

And then there’s yoga and pilates. With an incredible breadth of different practices to choose from, you can take your pick from functional, gong flow, restorative or traditional yoga - or go for reformer or mat pilates.

Restaurants & Food at Bamford Wellness Spa

If focusing on your self-care has left you feeling peckish, you’re in luck, because being on an organic farm puts you right in the heart of a glamorous gourmet haven.

So are you ready to try the best of the best of sustainable, organic eating? Let’s dig in to what’s on offer…

The Orchard Bar

Health never tasted so good than at Bamford Wellness Spa’s own cafe. Sip on a cold-pressed juice, enjoy a homemade smoothie, or go for an organic wine if the occasion calls. Then nibble on something from a menu designed with your optional wellbeing in mind. For breakfast, try the bircher muesli or opt for a filling green buckwheat wrap filled with fresh ewe’s curd for lunch.

The Trough Café

Love eating farm to fork? It doesn’t get better than this. The proud winner of a Michelin Green Star, the bright and airy dining room lets you enjoy breakfast, brunch and beyond. Graze on small plates or go for something substantial like the dry aged sirloin. Or take it outside to the immaculate courtyard and wine and dine al fresco.

The Legbar

In the mood for a charcuterie board and a glass of fizz? Step right this way. This relaxed, light and airy space is a great venue for coffee, cocktails and small plates, and is open all day and into the evening.

The Old Spot Restaurant

Kick back and relax in this laid back option, where wood-fired, sourdough pizzas and botanical drinks are the order of the day. Try the Daylesford G and E, made with Daylesford’s own artisan gin and elderflower tonic.

A day away from the all the usual stress is my idea of heaven, especially when the setting is such a special one. I visited Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds for the first time last month, and I have a feeling I will be returning many times in the future. All I really wanted from my day was a chance to relax and not think about work. I achieved that, but I also achieved so much more. It was so lovely, I felt both my mind and body had been able to unwind properly, probably for the first time years.

I’ve been to a number of spas over the last couple of years, and this one is as good, if not better, than any of them. I spent a day there in the autumn, and the first thing I noticed was the beauty of the surroundings. It’s very rural there, and that just adds to the sense of tranquillity that’s all around you. I had a relaxing massage, and I felt better from the very first moment. Next time I start to feel stressed out, I will be heading off to the Cotswolds for another idyllic day. Can’t wait!

My friends asked me several times to join them for a spa day recently, but I never managed to have the time to join them. Then they told me about Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds, and they said I absolutely HAD to join them. They felt I would find it to be perfect, and they were right. I loved the atmosphere, the treatment I had and the lunch as well. By the end of the day, we were already trying to arrange our next visit. They obviously knew what would impress me.

Some of the spas I’ve visited over the years have been good but not great, but this one is definitely an exception. I went to Bamford with an open mind, and although I was sure I’d like it I have to say it exceeded all of my expectations. There are lots of plus points about the place, but I think my favourite is the sheer serenity that I found there. I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere more peaceful. I can’t wait to go back!

Does Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds do afternoon tea?

Love to pamper and pour? While afternoon tea is not on offer at the Orchard Bar, the spa’s own wellness cafe, you don’t have to travel too far to indulge in the quintessentially British treat.

Available from 3pm to 5:30pm every day in the beautiful surroundings of The Trough right on the spa’s doorstep, afternoon tea here includes a selection of mini sandwiches, Earl grey fruit cake, buttermilk scone, jam & clotted cream plus a pot of organic tea.

Is there a swimming pool at Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds?

No, there’s no swimming pool here but that doesn’t mean you won’t be spending your day relaxing in warm water. The suite of wet facilities includes a very inviting, state-of-the-art hydro pool. Lie on one of the two air loungers, or stand on a mounted volcano pad - both send oxygen past the body to support circulation. Or just stand under the swan neck massage jets for a water-powered massage.

Is there accommodation at the Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds?

Want to turn your spa day into a staycation? Daylesford has a host of options. Choose from a cosy room in the Wild Rabbit pub (still part of the farm estate but just a 20-minute walk away across the fields), or book into one of the self-catering farm cottages right on the farm itself.

Who owns Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds?

It’s owned by Lady Carole Bamford, the British entrepreneur behind Daylesford Organic Farm. Is Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds eco-friendly?

Striving to make mindful choices yourself? You’ll be pleased to hear that Bamford Wellness Spa’s eco-credentials are second to none. Bamford was founded on the belief that we need to be more mindful of our connection to the earth, and all the products you’ll encounter here are organic and natural.

Sustainability also played a key role throughout the spa’s refurbishment, and the site uses renewable energy and a biomass boiler to heat the building, and has triple glazing and recycled fittings.

Is the Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds family-friendly?

While children aren’t allowed to use the tranquil, adults-only thermal suite, Bamford Wellness Spa does offer selected treatments for your mini pampering fans. Those aged 12 to 16 need a signed parental form, and have to be accompanied by an adult in the treatment room.

Anyone aged between 16 and 18 also needs a signed parental permission form but does not need to be accompanied.

There are mini manicures and pedicures for those under 12, and children’s yoga is also on offer to help those aged five to 12 feel more zen.

Four-legged friends are not allowed in the spa itself, of course, but Daylesford Organic Farm is fabulously dog-friendly - well, you are in the Cotswolds, after all. Waggy tails are welcome in the Trough restaurant and there’s ‘dog parking’ so they can wait for you while you’re shopping in the famous farm shop. The only places they’re not allowed to set a paw in are the Legbar, the Old Spot and the Fountain Courtyard.

You’ll need to remember it’s a working farm so keeping your furry friend on a lead is a must. And if you’re here on a spa staycation, the Wild Rabbit charges £15 per dog per night and has plenty of dog-friendly rooms.

Is there a golf club at Bamford Wellness Spa Cotswolds?

No, there’s no golf club at the Bamford Wellness Spa, but there is one just a 12-minute drive away.
