About

Cheeky getaway? Meet dream location. Nestled in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is the Surrey Hills, yet just 15 minutes from the connections of Guildford, Barnett Hill has 55 boutique rooms and suites, two tranquil treatment rooms and one seriously indulgent restaurant. Add hip interiors, a laid-back vibe and a glamorous cocktail bar into the mix and let the feasting, revelling and relaxing begin!

Take the winding, tree-lined driveway up to the top of the hill for your first glimpse of the red-brick mansion house the Telegraph dubbed a “magnificent gingerbread-brick palace”. Grade-II listed, the Queen Anne-style estate was built by the grandson of Thomas Cook (of travel company fame), and gloriously refurbished by Alexander Hotels in a nine-month labour of love.

Beautiful on the outside, step inside and you’ll find bold interior design touches, from the monochrome tiles at your feet to the lavishly arched ceilings overhead. Gaze through dramatic sash windows to 26 acres of glorious gardens beyond, or head out to the terrace for afternoon tea under a canopy of purple wisteria. Weather a bit British? Perch at bar 1905 for a pre-dinner cocktail before indulging in two-AA-Rosette-winning dining at the wood-cladded Oak Room Restaurant.

Like to get out and about? Lace up your walking boots, because there’s heaps to explore right on Barnett Hill’s doorstep. It’s a seven-minute ramble to Blackheath Common, or you could visit one of Surrey Hills’s postcard-pretty villages such as Shere, Abinger Hammer and Bramley. Take a fact-finding mission to the Silent Pool Distillery or Albury Vineyard, visit the woods at Winkworth Arboretum or soak up the history at Hampton Court Palace & Garden.

With a fantastic choice of contemporary Courtyard bedrooms and mansion suites to pick from, a dreamy night’s sleep is guaranteed. But, the icing on the cake has to be the Utopia Treatment Rooms themselves - two zen-like spaces offering signature massages and Templespa facials designed to energise and rejuvenate you, body and soul.

With its abundance of natural beauty, the spectacular Surrey Hills are a natural tonic to those looking to unwind. But Barnett Hill offers more ways to revive you than just its beautiful location.

Walk in and drift off, because although there are no pools, thermal or wet facilities here, you will find two tranquil treatment rooms that offer a selection of Templespa and signature Utopia rituals designed to beautify, rejuvenate or relax you.

Bursting with essential oils, Templespa treatments will transport you to the sunny shores of the Mediterranean. So you can arrive at the Utopia Treatment Rooms frazzled, and leave feeling like you’ve just had a two week-holiday somewhere sandy.

The Gym & Fitness at Barnett Hill Hotel

Unless you’ve got a will of iron, sticking to your fitness goals while you’re on a decadent mini break can be tough. But, while there’s no gym or leisure facilities at Barnett Hill, there’s so many ways to have fun and keep fit in the fresh air that you’ll want to take a few moments away from all the pampering and treating yourself. No, really!

First stop, Barnett Hill’s 26 acres of beautiful gardens. Charge up your FitBit and wander through the pink flowers of the camellia walk, or take the forest path to spot deer. There’s also croquet and giant chess for some friendly competition that will get your pulse racing.

Venturing further afield you’ll find some stunning Surrey countryside right on the hotel’s doorstep. In fact some of the best hiking spots in England are found nearby, including Box Hill, Leith Hill and the dramatic Devil’s Punch Bowl.

Bring your bike (or cheat and hire an electric one) because you’ll also find a spectacular range of single-track mountain bike trails. These take you through ancient woodland to some of the highest points in Surrey.

Restaurants & Food at Barnett Hill Hotel

Barnett Hill is a great location if you’re here on an occasion when only the best will do. Get your glad rags on and start your evening of wining and dining perched at the stylish 1905 bar with a perfectly-poured Espresso Martini in front of you.

Cocktails not your style? Why not try a locally-sourced tipple instead, like a Silent Pool gin and tonic, expertly crafted by a distillery just down the road.

Admire the plush furnishings and beautiful garden views while you nibble on a burger or sandwich from the bar menu. But if you fancy getting fancy, the wood-cladded Oak Room Restaurant fits the bill. It’s truly something extra-special, boasting laid back luxury, divine dining and two AA rosettes.

Sun-drenched by day and aglow with flickering candlelight by night (there’s also a crackling log fire if it’s chilly) it’s perfect for an intimate rendezvous. Serving up stylish and generous food, menus showcase the best of seasonal produce, sourced from some of the incredible suppliers of the Surrey Hills.
