About

If you’re after quaint with all the trimmings, the quirky and colourful Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa fits the bill. This charming chocolate-box retreat has an outdoor pool and an alfresco Champagne bar made for sunny days. But there’s also crackling fires (and a cracking spa) whenever you want to curl up and get cosy. It’s everything you’d want from a relaxing stay, deep in the Wiltshire countryside.

Don’t be fooled by its Georgian exterior. Bishopstrow may date back to 1817, but ‘olde worlde’ this is not. Funky and fun-loving hotel brand the Kaleidoscope Collection have breathed new life into this grand, honey-hued pile. From the bars to the bedrooms, flamboyant wallpapers are layered with pop art and rich textiles in a way that loses none of the building’s elegant period charm.

Borrow some wellies to explore the 30-acre estate. The grounds boast a rolling orchard, a no-dig kitchen garden and the River Wylye – perfect for a spot of trout fishing. Head to the tennis court for a friendly game of doubles, or play a board game in an plush sitting room. Gym bunnies will love the well-equipped fitness suite, and the hotel plays host to a range of activities and workshops throughout the year, from candle-making and garden tours to treasure hunts.

But if all that sounds a bit too hectic, head directly to the spa. This soothing sanctuary has indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, as well as a steam room, sauna and monsoon shower. Indulge in a range of Elemis and SOTHYS treatments, from soothing massages to results-driven facials. Here with someone special? A dual treatment room offers an intimate experience for those who like to pamper together.

If there’s time to explore after all that relaxing, Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa is just one mile east of the historic market town of Warminster. Cranborne Chase and the West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are nearby, as are Longleat Safari Park, Cheddar Gorge, Stourhead and Stonehenge. You can be in Bath in just 30 minutes. A little further afield you’ll find the maritime magic of Bristol, where a great range of shopping and tourist attractions await.

Our guess though is that you won’t want to stray too far from Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa. Indulge in fine dining in the conservatory-style Garden Grill, where many of the ingredients are sourced directly from the hotel’s own kitchen garden. And when it’s time to drift off to sleep, there are 36 bedrooms split between the main house, stables and gardens. Suites boast their own hot tubs and private gardens, but all rooms have luxurious touches like Dyson hair dryers and top-notch toiletries.

The Spa & Wellness at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa

Any visit to the gorgeously Georgian Bishopstrow will leave you feeling like lord or lady of the manor. But a trip to its fabulous spa has everything you need to spoil yourself in style.

A place where only the best will do, your journey into self-care and holistic wellness begins at the indoor pool. At 13.5m, it’s long enough for laps, or just take a leisurely dip as you catch up with friends. Bubble your troubles away in the indoor or outdoor hot tub, or hit the sauna and steam room to fully unwind. On summer days you can spend hours relaxing beside the outdoor pool, soaking up the sunshine.

When it’s time for your ritual, four tranquil treatment rooms await, including one intimate suite just for couples. Enjoy soul-soothing, body-beautifying, head-clearing rituals from Elemis and SOTHYS, or try the mud rasul to cleanse and purify your skin. And to make sure you float out looking just as good as you feel, head to the Taittinger nail salon for a mani/pedi that’s the perfect finishing touch.

The Gym & Fitness at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa

Looking for a fitness boost? You’ll find it at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa. Its fully-equipped gym is crammed with weights and cardio kit, to meet the needs of even the most demanding of gym bunnies.

Don’t know your bench press from your dumbbell? Don’t sweat it. Booking a personal training session will help you kick-start your new, healthy lifestyle. You can even take part in a PT-led session, from circuits to HIIT.

But there are plenty of ways to get active in the fresh air, too. Stroll around the 30 acres of grounds or challenge your other half to a game of tennis on the indoor or outdoor courts. Just ask to borrow a racquet and balls from reception.

Restaurants & Food at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa

Dining at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa is a delight, thanks to the synergy between the no-dig garden and the kitchen. Home-grown vegetables from the hotel’s own beds mingle on the menu with Exmoor venison and south-west seafood at the conservatory-style Garden Grill, so ingredients are as locally-sourced as you can get!

Sink into the plush, banquette seating. But if that’s not natural enough for you, there is another option. You can eat semi-alfresco in the dining domes in Bishtopstrow’s manicured gardens. Hidden just off the winter terrace, they’re decorated with exquisite ornaments, creating a magical atmosphere whenever you’re dining under the stars.

Local ingredients and the kitchen garden are also the inspiration behind Bishopstrow’s must-try afternoon teas. Served in the Garden Grill or an elegant lounge, nothing beats a brioche roll filled with Severn & Wye smoked salmon, along with innovative mini cakes made by in-house pastry chefs. Toffee apple éclair, anyone?

But where to head for your post-spa G&T? It’s always happy hour at The Bar, whether you’re popping in for a nightcap, a handcrafted cocktail, a glass of bubbles or a Somerset cider. Cheers!

Myself and my fiancé spent the night at Bishopstrow on the 20th of June. The spa facilities were well maintained and clean. The new changing rooms were updated to a high standard including Dyson hair driers to add some luxury. Outdoor pool was lovely first thing in the morning as it’s heated and the sauna/steam room and indoor pool were clean and not crowded. The food was exceptional and the service was absolutely brilliant. The attention to detail from the waiting staff was second to none - nothing was too much trouble and we were treated like royalty. Excellent catering for a Gluten Free diet. Amazing cocktails. The room was very spacious with robes and slippers for the spa. Huge comfy bed with an outside patio. Very clean. We are already planning our next visit and we would recommend this spa to all of our friends and family.

This venue was just perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel and spa day to everyone. The setting was gorgeous, the facilities were beautiful, and the food was just spectacular. The only thing that let the spa day down was the treatment. My friend really enjoyed hers, but mine felt rushed and didn't live up to expectations.

The whole day was just what I needed to switch off. We were a little early, but they still checked us in. Once we were in we were given slippers, robe and towels. They showed us round. The relaxation room was lovely. Our massages were incredible and we weren’t hard sold products at the end either which I really loved. Lunch was a choice of 3 in each course with £5pp extra if we wanted a third course. Extremely delicious and the service was incredible. The server was extremely good at his job and if we had cash on us (we were in swimwear and robes), I would have tipped him. We spent the rest of the day swimming/ relaxing by the pool in the hot tubs. There was a weather warning so all the outside furniture was covered but we could use them if we wanted. We had a lovely kids free no stress day. We used Tesco Clubcard points towards the day which made it much more affordable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa do afternoon tea?

It does. After all, what sort of pampering treat doesn’t involve lashings of tea and cake? Choose a spa package that includes afternoon tea and you’ll enjoy sweet and savoury treats lovingly made by in-house pastry chefs and crafted using ingredients from Bishopstrow’s no-dig garden. Wash down your fluffy scones with loose-leaf tea, organic coffee - or a glass of Taittinger bubbles if you’re feeling fancy.

Is there a swimming pool at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa?

There are two! Water babies will be in heaven in the indoor 13.5m swimming pool, complete with hot tub, sauna, steam room and monsoon shower. There’s also an outdoor pool that’s open in the summer, along with an outdoor hot tub.

Is there accommodation at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa?

Bishopstrow has 36 bedrooms, filled with the bright, zingy colour palette that is synonymous with the Kaleidoscope hotel brand. Expect Paul Smith-stripe headboards, flamboyant wallpapers and luxury touches like Dyson hair dryers. In the main house, rooms have original features and far-reaching views. Rooms in the converted stables courtyard are dog-friendly, while enormous suites have their own outdoor hot tubs and private gardens.

What are check-in and check-out times at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa?

You can check in to your room from 3pm. You need to check out by 11am on the day of departure. For spa day packages, arrival times vary. Please check your booking confirmation.

Where is Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa located?

Bishopstrow is one mile east of Warminster in Wiltshire, five miles from Longleat and 15 miles from Stonehenge. The quirky town of Frome is a 20-minute drive away, while the National Trust gardens at Stourhead and the charming city of Bath are within a half-hour drive.

Sightseeing opportunities abound, but the grounds are so pretty you may not wish to venture too far afield. Borrow a pair of wellies and go exploring. On the banks of the River Wylye, Bishopstrow Hotel is nestled in manicured gardens, woodland and pastures.

Is Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa family-friendly?

Yes it is, with a range of family-friendly bedrooms, children’s meals and activities laid on in the school holidays. Kids can let off steam in Bishopstrow’s 30 acres of grounds. You can even challenge your clan to a game of tennis on the tennis courts.

While you have to be over 16 for a treatment or to use the gym or thermal facilities, Bishopstrow’s indoor pool has child-friendly swim times from 8am to 10am and 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Children can use the outdoor pool all-day, every day (subject to opening times).

Looking for child-friendly activities to do while you’re here? Bishopstrow puts you within striking distance of Longleat safari park. Home to over 120 species, Longleat was the first Safari Park to open outside of Africa, way back in 1966.

Is Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa accessible?

The hotel’s delightful vintage means that it’s not the easiest to navigate with a wheelchair. Bishopstrow is set over several stories and because it's Grade II-listed there’s no lift. However, there are some Courtyard rooms with adapted showers that suit guests with mobility issues.

Is Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa dog-friendly?

Yes it is. Dogs can check-in for £35 per night, and your canine companion is welcome almost everywhere in the hotel, including the lounges and bar. Bishopstrow’s 30 acres of grounds make for some excellent walkies, and there’s a dog washing station to clean off muddy paws. The hotel provides doggie beds and bowls, and they’ll get their own Woof Box, filled with treats, food and a ball.

Is there a golf club at Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa?

Love to pamper and putt? Sadly there’s no golf club at Bishopstrow itself, but hop in the car because West Wilts Golf Club is just two miles away. This 19-hole, inland links course boasts stunning views across three counties from its hilltop position above Warminster.
