About
With its whisky and walks, you don’t really need another excuse to visit the South of Scotland. But the Cairndale Hotel just added wow-factor wellness to your list. Situated in the heart of Dumfries, this family-run hotel has long been a bonnie bolthole of indulgent dining and friendly hospitality. But spring 2024 saw the opening of the Cairndale Spa - and it’s fast becoming a must-visit destination in its own right.
A worth-every-penny £2 million transformation created a dreamy, two-storey spa retreat with all the trimmings. With a huge thermal pool, two steam rooms and saunas, a herbal lounge, hammam, rasul and a private bathing suite, the Cairndale Spa is the whole pampering package. Sip a smoothie at the spa café. Slip on a snuggly robe. Then savour Gaia, Voya, Tribe 517 and La-Eva rituals from six luxurious treatment rooms.
Tempted to turn your spa day into a spa stay? We don’t blame you. Check-in to cosy Classics or spacious Suites, crammed with period features. Elegant and tasteful, the focus is on comfort mingled with a few subtle touches of Scottish charm. Whisky-scented toiletries anyone?
Thought you had to head to the Highlands for picture-perfect scenery? Dumfries and Galloway has its own forests, hills and lochs to explore. The area’s known as the ‘Scottish Riviera’ - at the beautiful Sandhills beach you’ll find out why. Moat Brae, the birthplace of Peter Pan, is a gentle stone’s throw away or drive the 30 minutes to Caledonia Park Designer Outlet to hunt for some bargains. Or just stay in Dumfries to walk in the footsteps of Scottish poet Robert Burns.
But when the sun goes down on your Scottish adventures, there’s nothing like getting cosy at the Cairndale. Along with its stand-out spa, the hotel has had a glam glow-up of its own. So treat yourself to a dram of local whisky in the stylish Lounge Bar. Then tuck into a delicious meal that showcases the best of Scotland’s bounty at the elegant Reivers Restaurant.

The ultimate hydrotherapy experience, you’ll work your way round the jets, water blades, and airbeds. And, at 14m, there’s plenty of room to catch up with friends.
Ease your tension with some heat. There’s a detoxifying Himalayan salt sauna and an infrared sauna with a raft of therapeutic benefits. Breathe deeply in the essential oil-infused aroma steam room, or the calming herbal steam room. And, when you need to cool off, there’s a Brass Monkey ice bath and an ice fountain - if you dare!
Pad in your slippers to the herbal relaxation lounge. This sumptuous sanctuary is designed for unwinding, with gentle herbal infusions that invite you to deeply relax.
But what really sets Cairndale Spa apart is its treatments, many of which you just won’t find elsewhere. Yes there’s a traditional Turkish hammam and mud rasul for rituals that combine steam and exfoliation, but they’re only the beginning.
Serious spa aficionado? Book the private bathing suite. Offering the ultimate in privacy and luxury, you can submerge your body in hand-harvested seaweed or bath salts, courtesy of top-notch spa brand Voya. There’s even room for two, for a romantic treat you’ll never forget.
Bespoke treatments use natural products, healing crystals and traditional techniques. Whisky lover? Try a signature treatment from the Cairndale x Annandale Collection. Crafted by Tribe 517, scrubs and massages use a blend of natural ingredients and premium whisky from the Annandale Distillery just up the road.
You can even indulge in Raindrop Therapy. This healing technique combines aromatherapy oils and massage to restore balance and harmony.
