About
Where do the North-West’s most glittering celebrities escape to when they’re in need of a little R and R? Footballers, actors and business leaders flock to Mottram Hall, Champneys’ first ever spa in the north of England - and it’s easy to see why. Serene but never stuffy, this Cheshire oasis of tranquillity is more than just impossibly glamorous. It combines luxurious hospitality with the kind of cutting-edge expertise that can take your health and wellness to a whole new level.
If you’ve not started your love affair with Champneys yet, Mottram Hall Hotel will set your heart a-flutter. Situated in the pretty village of Mottram St Andrew, the Grade II Georgian retreat is set within 270 acres of landscaped gardens. Combining historic charm with contemporary design flair, there are sweeping staircases, 120 spacious bedrooms, an 18-hole Championship golf course and an AA-rosette winning restaurant.
Days and stays of sheer indulgence await you here. But while it has always been spectacular, a recent £15m refurbishment has elevated Mottram Hall Hotel into something truly extraordinary. The majority of that eye-watering budget went into creating the Champneys spa - even seasoned spa-goers can’t fail to be impressed with the glitzy indoor swimming pool, monsoon drench showers and chic poolside cabanas.
Fifteen tempting treatment rooms offer rituals from the tension-melting to the age-defying. You can relax even deeper by taking a stroll through gorgeous spa gardens complete with bubbling hydrotherapy pool. Feeling energetic? A cool £160k has been invested in new gym equipment, and for an extra fee you can sweat your way through a weekly calendar of classes that include Aqua Fit, Pilates, Zumba and Bootcamp Circuits.
Just 16 miles from the buzzing retail and nightlife hub that is Manchester city centre, the hotel feels a world away from the hustle and bustle. The affluent town of Wilmslow with its designer stores and quirky independents is just three miles away, but you’re also in pole position to explore Cheshire's Peak District, an area brimming with breath-taking scenery and dramatic landscapes.
But when you’re tired of shopping and sightseeing, know that Mottram Hall Hotel awaits you. Arrive frazzled, leave refreshed at a spa that will exceed all your wildest expectations. Then just breathe deeply in the candle-scented air and enjoy every minute in this palace of pampering.

The Spa & Wellness at Champneys Mottram Hall Hotel
Take time to discover a whole new you at the Champneys spa at Mottram Hall,, the serene retreat that focuses solely on your wellbeing. This is more than just an escape from the hustle and bustle - it’s self-care at its most luxurious.
Step inside the light-filled reception area with its orange sofas and roaring fireplace and you’ll know you’re about to experience something extra special. Even the open-plan spa café has its own central fireplace, inviting you to curl up with a cup of coffee and enjoy the flickering flames.
With the emphasis firmly on you, you’ll go on a journey that harmonises your mind, body and spirit. And the first step on your journey is at the incredible indoor pool. Set in an orangery-style building flanked by stylish rattan loungers, you can float like a star-fish in the warm, tranquil waters while gazing up at the skies overhead through those expansive roof lanterns.
Revel in the bubbling hydropool while water jets cocoon you in a warm oasis of bliss, or try the raised hydro-pool with its oversized swan neck fountain. You’ll find a monsoon shower with three settings (tropical, storm and cool rain) at the edge of the hot tub. Or hit the saunas and steam rooms with glass doors to make the most of the views. But which one first? There’s a Brechel sauna (cooler than the normal kind), a salt steam room and a three-level organic sauna.
Our favourite? It has to be the salt steam room. This glamorous glitter room emits a saltwater mist that will make you feel like you’re walking on a tropical beach. Warming up to between 40 and 45 degrees with virtually 100% humidity, the soft heat, increased humidity and saltwater mist produce negative ions that can help alleviate respiratory and sinus problems, as well as strengthen connective tissue to make skin look and feel smoother.
Stroll through the spa garden for a dip in the hydro-pool. On sunnier days there’s nothing better than lying on one of the daybeds to enjoy a glass of fizz in the sunshine.
And just when you thought you couldn’t get anymore relaxed, it’s time to dive deeper into bliss with a ritual in one of the 15 tranquil treatment rooms. As you might expect from spa masters Champneys, there’s a whole encyclopaedia of face and body treats to choose from, from tenson-melting massages to radiance-boosting facials. You’ll be rubbed, scrubbed and soothed back to feeling your very best in no time!
The Gym & Fitness at Champneys Mottram Hall Hotel
Make sure you bring your trainers, because Champneys has everything you need to break a sweat in style. Spa days to Mottram Hall Hotel include complimentary access to the swanky Technogym, plus aqua classes, on-screen classes (virtual barre, anyone?) and guided walks around the grounds.
But it might be worth paying the additional charge and taking part in one of their outstanding fitness classes. Champneys at Mottram Hall has over 40 classes per week including classic favourites like yoga, Pilates, Body Pump, spinning and Zumba. But why not make this the time you try something new, like Clubbercise or Kettlebells?
For real results (and to really work your butt off!) you can book a fun, personalised, one-to-one workout. A great way to kick start a new healthy lifestyle or to work on your specific requirements, training sessions are tailored to your needs.
Restaurants & Food at Champneys Mottram Hall Hotel
The hardest part of any visit to Mottram Hall Hotel? Deciding which one of its superb eating and drinking options you’re going to savour during your stay. Newly refurbished, no expense has been spared in service or style. Wherever you choose to dine, you know you’re in for a gourmet treat.
Here on a spa package that includes healthy snacks and a nutritious lunch? You’ll eat at the spa restaurant Raffaela’s in the comfort of your snuggly robe. But with so much on offer, you may just decide to de-robe, glam up and linger long into the evening, too. Just remember to book in advance!
Raffaella’s spa restaurant
With an ethos based on the philosophy that food, wellness and beauty are inextricably intertwined, wholesome lunches are the order of the day in the spa restaurant, which also features panoramic views of the hotel grounds. The décor is every bit as scrumptious (and beautifully presented) as the food. So pull up a chair or sit in a booth and pick from a mouth-watering menu of yummy fare and perhaps the odd glass of bubbles - well, being healthy is all about balance!
Carrington Grill
Anyone for tender ragu beef, or a delectable pan-fried sea bream? It’s worth getting glammed up in your finest smart/casual attire to enjoy some AA-Rosette dining at the classy restaurant in the heart of the hotel. The AA called it “modern country-house dining at its best” and it’s easy to see why. Seasonal menus focus on traditional English dishes tempered with a modern European twist.
Barneys
After a round of golf, there’s nowhere finer than Barneys for a drink and a spot of gastropub fare. With a wide selection of tipples and views of the fairways, it’s the perfect spot to kick back with a burger at the bar, and watch the football on the screens. Or visit when there’s live music and watch buzzing Barneys come alive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a swimming pool at Mottram Hall Hotel?
Seeking poolside serenity? Get that robe on and walk this way! Part of the £15 million state-of-the-art Champneys spa refurbishment, the 20m indoor lap pool is a sight to behold.
It’s situated in the new, light-flooded orangery with floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides and huge glass roof lanterns. Flanked by comfy rattan loungers, it offers endless views over the gardens. The surrounding saunas and steam rooms are all housed in glass too to make the most of the pool views.
But this sequestered space is not the only place where water babies can get their fix. If powering up and down the 20m lap pool sounds a bit too energetic, go for a gentle wallow in the 13-metre semi-circular pool, before relaxing in the bubbling hot tub or raised hydro-pool with its oversized swan neck fountain. And on sunny days, there’s also an oversized hydrotherapy pool in the spa garden.
Is Mottram Hall a Champneys’ resort?
No, it’s one of Champneys’ luxury spa hotels. Champneys has four resorts - Tring, Forest Mere, Henlow and Springs. These are health spas with a laser focus on your health and wellbeing.
Its two luxury spa hotels, Eastwell Manor and Mottram Hall, feature all the mod cons you’d expect from a destination hotel (think elegant interiors, gourmet dining, glamorous bars and afternoon tea) along with a Champneys spa.
Is there accommodation at Mottram Hall Hotel?
Tempted to turn a spa day into a spa stay? You’re in luck. Mottram Hall Hotel has 120 stylish bedrooms, each one carefully designed and tastefully decorated to reflect the hotel’s elegance. They’re also crammed full of life’s little luxuries, like Egyptian cotton bed-linen and snuggly duck feather & down duvets.
Here for a special occasion? Try a feature room. Located on the ground floor with private outdoor patios, they still have the glorious original oak panelling.
What time is check-in and check-out at Mottram Hall Hotel?
Champneys Spa Days start at 9am and end at 6pm, but do check your booking confirmation for full details. For overnight stays at Mottram Hall Hotel, check-in is at 3pm on your arrival day and you can check out at any time up to 11am on the day of your departure.
Is Mottram Hall Hotel accessible?
It is. Alongside accessible treatment rooms and two separate accessible changing rooms, there’s an internal lift to the spa restaurant and also to the hotel bedrooms. There are steps into our leisure pool, but all thermal room access is DDA compliant in terms of door widths and features space for a wheelchair user.
Who owns Mottram Hall Hotel?
Mottram Hall is owned by the Champneys Group, who bought the Georgian pile in 2018 and transformed the spa with a multi-million pound renovation. Champneys is probably the best known group in the UK’s health spa industry, dedicated to a combination of luxury hospitality and cutting-edge wellness.
Where is Mottram Hall Hotel located?
You’ll find this sumptuous Georgian country house hotel in Cheshire, in the pretty village of Mottram St Andrew just three miles from Wilmslow, an affluent town which is one of the most sought after places to live in the UK after central London. It’s close to Macclesfield (six miles), and about 15 miles from the centre of Manchester.
What should I bring for a Champneys spa day at Mottram Hall Hotel?
Very little, as you’ll be spending most of your day swanning around in your complimentary towelling robe and flip-flops! You’ll obviously need swimwear to wear in the pool and thermal facilities. But it's a good idea to bring some spare swimwear or dry underwear to keep you feeling comfortable when you go for lunch, or if you’re planning on booking into a treatment. You’ll also need activewear and trainers if you’re going to use the gym or have a class, and a spare pair for outdoors if you fancy a stroll around the grounds.
Do I get to keep the flip flops provided at Mottram Hall Hotel?
Yes you do! Flip flops are provided to all guests and are yours to keep. They’re also anti-slip tested so they’re perfect for the spa and poolside.
Is Mottram Hall Hotel family-friendly?
Unlike Champneys Resorts which are over 16s only, Mottram Hall is a Champneys hotel and as such it does welcome children! In fact your spa-loving mini-me’s aged 14 to 16 can even have a treatment, as long as you go with them to the treatment rooms.
Does Mottram Hall Hotel have a golf course?
Yes it does. The 18-hole Championship golf course played host to the 2013 European Seniors PGA Championship so you know you’re in for something extra special. Featuring two contrasting circuits of nine, the front nine has an impressive back-drop of the 18th century hall, while the back nine winds through rich woodland. Playing all 18? Make sure you stop at the Halfway House for refreshments!
Is Mottram Hall Hotel pet-friendly?
Sorry, Mottram Hall doesn’t accept pooches, no matter how much they love to be pampered. Only guide dogs and hearing dogs allowed.
