About
Craving a good-for-you getaway, that doesn’t skimp on the luxury? Want to drink in spectacular riverside views while sipping Champagne from your own private hot tub? You can have all this and more at Galgorm. Just 30 minutes from Belfast, this blissful Ballymena bolthole nestles in 450 acres of lush landscapes beside the tumbling River Maine. If it’s not on your bucket list already, it should be.
Galgorm isn’t just the best resort in Northern Ireland. It’s up there with the very best spa destinations in the world - and has the mantelpiece of luxury travel awards to prove it. In fact, if you’re planning an occasion when only the best will do, Galgorm will be the venue of your dreams.
Sweep up the tree-lined path to the main house, past manicured gardens dotted with hot tubs. Stop and listen to the sounds of the river, before you’re welcomed by bowler-hatted doormen dressed in traditional tweed - the perfect match to the 19th century decor inside. Once the 1857 villa of local mill owners, the original house is crammed with open fires and antiques. But while the look may be traditional, the vibe is far more serene than stuffy.
Leisure facilities are every bit as abundant as Galgorm’s period features. With bikes to hire, an 18-hole golf course, all-weather tennis courts and a well-equipped gym, your stay can be action-packed. But there’s nothing to stop you from just eating, drinking and being merry. Work your way through the resort’s clutch of bars and restaurants before settling in with a whiskey at McKendry's Lounge.
But the star of the show is undoubtedly Galgorm’s Thermal Spa Village. Yes, there’s a 20m tranquil indoor pool surrounded by tootsie-massaging polished pebbles. But with three distinct spa gardens, each offering a unique take on wellness, why stay inside? Meander through the Alpine Garden with its sauna cabins and chalets. Savour Elements in the Riverside Garden - the robes-only spa cafe. Chill-out in the Walled Garden - its Palm House offers forest bathing with a cocktail in hand.
In the unlikely event you’ll want to leave all this, Galgorm makes a great base for exploring. Belfast boasts brilliant attractions, including Titanic Belfast and the arty Cathedral Quarter. You’re 50 minutes from the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of mind-boggling beauty. Hike up Slemish Mountain. Just nine miles north-west of Ballymena, it’s said to be where St Patrick herded sheep in the fifth century. Game of Thrones fans will love that Dark Hedges (aka the King's Road) is half an hour north.
But when you’re tired of seeing the sights, Galgorm will be there to welcome you. With 125 opulent bedrooms, including self-catering lodges and log cabins, this once-in-a-lifetime spa resort is a haven of luxury that has to be seen to be believed. Whether you book for a day or stay for the night, you’ll emerge feeling revitalised, restored and renewed.

Snail-shell-shaped experience showers. Salt caves. Saunas with panoramic views. Private hot tubs by the river. This is more than just a spa. Galgorm’s Thermal Spa Village is an indoor/outdoor pampering paradise packed with every indulgent feature you could dream of - and then some.
Swim laps in the 20-metre indoor pool, or try the Beltane Experience, which offers huge 12-man hot tubs beside a roaring fire. Take part in the Celtic Sauna Ritual complete with herbal infusions. Or head to one of the 15 treatment rooms for rituals from top-notch spa brand Elemis.
But they’re all just the start of your journey to bliss. In fact there’s so much on offer, there’s even an app to download, complete with a map to help you explore!
The Thermal Spa Village has three gardens, each with their own unique take on spa relaxation. Here’s a selection of their best bits:
The Riverside Garden
On the banks of the River Maine, this garden has a Salt Cave, a Finnish sauna, a steam room, and a cedar hot tub. You can also grab a bite to eat and drink in the dome-shaped Elements spa cafe.
The Alpine Garden
Home to the huge outdoor vitality pool, with a variety of jets and waterfalls to help you relax and rejuvenate. The private cabana is the perfect place to take a break and enjoy the scenery. And the sauna pod is a great way to sweat out toxins and invigorate your senses.
The Walled Garden
The Walled Garden offers a steam room, sauna, hot tubs, and stunning Serenity Garden with its private bathing areas dotted amongst the fruit-laden apple trees. Don’t miss the Palm House, for forest bathing with a cocktail in hand.
The Gym & Fitness at Galgorm
You’ve de-stressed and detoxed in the lap of luxury. Now it’s time to reach your fitness goals, and Galgorm has just the thing to help you workout in style.
You can jog, lift and stretch to your heart’s content at Galgorm’s state-of-the-art fitness suite, on level 1 of the sumptuous Thermal Spa Village. Sweat with friends in group classes like spin, water aerobics and bootcamp. You can even try MetCon, a type of workout that will extend your overall level of fitness. Contact spa reception to book your spot.
But while the gym is well-stocked and the classes are fun, the emphasis here is on natural, holistic wellness. Reconnecting with nature feels easy thanks to activities like cycling, horse-riding and strolls around the lush grounds. Enjoy a game of tennis on the all-weather course, or perfect your swing at the championship golf course. There’s fun pitch and putt if you don’t want to play all 18 holes.
Feeling adventurous? Lace up your walking boots and take a hike - there are natural wonders on Galgorm’s doorstep just waiting to be explored, from ancient woodlands to rugged hills.

Elements
Perched discreetly within the Riverside Garden, Elements Spa Café offers a haven of relaxation beneath a timber halo dome structure - one of only five in the world. Savour classic brasserie dishes, sizzling steaks, or Asian-inspired creations. Freshness is key - Gillies uses the finest local Antrim produce in all its creations.Live music fills the bar each night, adding a touch of lively energy.

McKendry’s Lounge Bar
Settle in for the night at McKendry’s, the exclusive whiskey bar next to Gillies Grill,. With the warmth and craic of an eclectic Irish pub, there’s an extensive drinks list. But it would be a crime to leave without sampling one of the 300 whiskeys on offer.
Mulberry Garden
Here when the sun’s shining? Enjoy al fresco dining in the Mulberry Garden. This little patch of paradise between Fratelli and Gillies is heaven in the summer. But in winter it comes into its own with heated mosaic seats and an open fire. Scan the QR codes on tables to order drinks from McKendry’s at 12pm, and food from Fratelli from 5pm.
The Castle Kitchen & Bar
Ignite your taste buds with an eclectic mix of modern dishes, smokey steaks and home-made dessert. Relaxed or rooftop? You decide. Enjoy the intimate yet informal setting, perfect for gatherings with friends. Or, raise the bar with al fresco dining on the roof terrace. Soak in stunning fairway and countryside views while sipping cocktails or indulging in a casual bite.
The Conservatory
Home to elegant afternoon teas, the magnificent glass Conservatory also houses the resort’s Cocktail Bar & Gin Library. Enjoy views of the River Maine with classic and bespoke cocktails, served with a dash of theatre.

Warm your cockles with a pot of freshly-brewed tea, chosen from a menu that’s the perfect accompaniment to all the delicacies that await. Dainty sandwiches burst with innovative flavours, like crispy brie slathered with the sweetness of onion jam. Mini cakes and desserts feature heavenly flavour combinations. Even the scones have a Galgorm twist, with buttermilk, blueberry and verbena and even caramel varieties.
Served daily between 1pm and 4pm, afternoon tea features variations that tie in with the seasons (think racket-shaped biscuits and Pimms in time for Wimbledon). Keep things traditional, or opt for three-tiers paired with Champagne or gin.
