With a rich history dating back to the 16th century, the glorious Macdonald Houstoun House is something rather special. Close to the iconic city of Edinburgh, it’s located in a peaceful spot amid 22 acres of picturesque woodland. When your mind and body are in the mood to get away from it all, this heavenly retreat fits the bill perfectly.
Superb retail therapy is to be found in Edinburgh’s famous streets, and of course there’s a breath-taking castle at the top of the Royal Mile that’s just waiting to be explored. You can spend some quality time at Edinburgh Zoo, gaze at the exhibits in the National Museum of Scotland and head to the top of Arthur’s Seat for some spectacular views of this wondrous city.
Getting away from it all is easy here, because the magnificent Houstoun House offers 73 gorgeous bedrooms. The three treatment rooms in the spa have all the tranquillity you’ll ever need, and there’s an excellent gym as well. Later, the elegant Jeremy Wares Restaurant will be waiting to wow you.

Had a one night stay with a spa, both spa treatments were amazing back massage was especially rejuvenating! Dinner was beautiful, room was lovely. All the staff we met were very helpful and friendly.

I arrived at the spa and was greeted by friendly informative staff. I had the right amount of time to spend in the pool, steam room and sauna before my chosen treatments. I received an amazingly relaxing facial and deep tissue back massage from therapist, Caley. After this I had a delicious afternoon tea in the hotel restaurant. This was my first spa experience so was a bit anxious about it before arriving however I left feeling extremely relaxed. I would definitely recommend a spa package at Macdonald Houston House.

Spa was relaxing, cosy and clean. I changed my treatment last minute and it was no problem to my therapist. Both my partner and I enjoyed our massages. The staff were very welcoming and professional. We would return again.

I treated myself and my friend to a spa day at this hotel as my friend is getting married here next year, so I thought would be a nice wee relaxing day before it all. Couldn’t fault anything, amazing from start to finish, treatments that we had were great from beginning to end from the therapist Tanya, 10/10! Thank you for making our day memorable. Would definitely recommend. The afternoon tea was bliss, you do need to go to the other building but they separated spa to public so you could go over in your spa robes. You don’t get a glass of Prosecco with it but you can buy, which we never, we enjoyed a hot chocolate instead. Highly recommend and would definitely return.
