Great shopping? Check. Incredible culture? Check. A Champagne bar, thermal suite and more relaxing rituals than you can shake a cucumber slice at? Check, check and check. Sheffield spa days tick so many boxes, so why not pay a visit to the glamorous urban retreat that lets you experience them all?

With its striking contemporary façade and elegant interior, Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s Hotel & Spa provides the ideal setting for the most stylish of city breaks. With 169 luxurious bedrooms, the hotel’s smart restaurant, The Yard, serves up modern British cuisine along with sensational views. But the pièce de resistance is undoubtedly the buzzing Champagne Bar @ St Paul’s, perfect if you’re in town for a celebration or an intimate rendezvous.

Beyond the bubbles, a haven of relaxation awaits you in the hotel’s health club. Surrender to a swim in the shimmering indoor pool, or sweat away the stress in the gym and fitness studio. The Spa & Wellness at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa

What’s better than a city break to Sheffield? A city break to Sheffield that lets you escape the hustle and bustle in a super-luxurious spa!

You’ll be treated like a true VIP here at the hotel’s health club. Called Spa Naturel Fitness, this hidden haven is one of Steel City’s best hotspots for pampering, with rituals dedicated to your holistic wellbeing.

Leave the buzz of Sheffield city centre behind and step into this temple of tranquility. After a spot of sightseeing, there really is no better way to relax. Slip into a luxuriously soft robe and slippers, and pad to the beautifully-lit heated indoor pool and let your urban spa experience begin.

There’s nothing like a dip in warm water to make you feel instantly more zen. The water here is heated to a toasty 29 to 30°C, but that’s just the start of your thermal journey. Clear your mind in the salt-infused aromatherapy room, breathe deeply in the eucalyptus-milk steam then sweat it out in the dry heat of the sauna. Toxins have nowhere to hide!

An experience shower lets you flip between Caribbean storm and arctic rain depending on your mood, and there’s an ice room to stimulate your circulation.

And just when you thought you couldn’t relax anymore, it’s time for your treatment. A carefully curated selection of Ishga and Comfort Zone treatments offer comforting massages, rejuvenating body scrubs and results-driven facials. For the perfect finishing touch, try a manicure and pedicure - you’ll be able to show off your glam new nails in the spa lounge over a glass of Prosecco.

Then all that’s left to do is curl up for a while in the zen-like relaxation room. This quiet sanctuary lets you listen to the sounds of running water and ambient music while you drift away into sheer euphoria.

The Gym & Fitness at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa

A fresh place to work out equals fresh motivation. Whether you’re already a gym-goer or are considering restarting your regime after a break, Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s has everything you need to help you reach your full fitness potential.

Sleek and modern, its Spa Naturel Fitness health club lets you stretch out, work out and chill out in style. Crammed with Technogym kit you’ll find free weights and a freestyle zone, along with cardio and resistance machines.

But fitness is so much more fun with friends. Luckily, with 20 fun group classes on offer each week, there’s no need to train alone. Hit the studio for old favourites like Classic Bootcamp, Zumba, Step, yoga and pilates. Or take the opportunity to try something new, such as Aero Weights or Triple Threat.

But if you thought visiting the gym was all hard work and rough towels, think again. Here, fitness and luxury go hand in hand. Where else could your post-workout routine involve a spell in a reviving aromatherapy room?

Restaurants & Food at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa

A location this special deserves a restaurant and bar that’s equally as stylish. Luckily the Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa doesn’t disappoint thanks to two elegant options that ooze glamour.

Champagne Bar @ St Paul’s

After a long day of spa-ing, shopping and sightseeing, drop by the hotel’s fabulous Champagne Bar for the perfect end to a wonderful day. With a buzzy atmosphere and amazing views of the city, you can pop the cork and clink your glasses to your sophisticated Sheffield spa escape!

Plush velvet seating and warm ambient lighting create a celebratory vibe, so it’s the perfect venue if you’re here for a special occasion. And, whether you're a connoisseur of vintage Champagnes or simply enjoy a tipple with a touch of luxury, you’ll find an impressive selection of flutes to try, from Prosecco to Tattinger.

The Yard Restaurant

With a romantic location overlooking the spectacular Winter Gardens, The Yard Restaurant is the beating heart of the Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel. Exposed brick walls and industrial accents set the scene for a dining experience to savour.

Locally-sourced ingredients from top regional suppliers are the order of the day. So sink your teeth into contemporary British cuisine, like juicy steaks, melt-in-the-mouth pizza and the most beautifully prepared seafood delicacies. Feeling sociable? Opt for a selection of small plates or a sharing board groaning with goodies.

I went with my mum for her her birthday. We had such a great time. The 2 women who were at the reception desk in the morning (around 10am) were so welcoming and helpful. We had a light lunch and once again the waitress was very nice. We both had a back massage and a facial. I had Josie who were amazing, I felt so relaxed after. I don’t know the name of the woman my mum had, but she was really nice. Despite the fact that my mum doesn’t speak English, she did everything in her power to give the most relaxing time to my mum. There were also hot drink available throughout the day. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. The only down side was that the aroma room didn’t really have any aroma but it was more like a steam room. I highly recommend this place.

If you only have a time for a day away, I’d really suggest this spa. Amazing 50 min massage experience, nice heated swimming pool, multiple saunas and a beautiful light lunch. Kind staff and felt really relaxing throughout the day. I’d recommend it!

Spa had very friendly staff and a decent sized pool. Would have liked iced water and cups in the area with the pool and steam/sauna rather than the lukewarm fountain water. But otherwise it a lovely spa.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a swimming pool at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa?

There is! Whether you swim to energise or unwind, the hotel’s beautifully-lit azure rectangle makes the perfect sanctuary. At 18m in length, it's long enough for some invigorating laps. But because it’s heated to a toasty 29 to 30°C, you won’t have to brace yourself to get your shoulders wet.

After your swim, why not turn up the temperature even more? Take your body on a thermal journey in the 36°C salt-infused aromatherapy salt room, the 45°C Eucalyptus milk steam room and the 90°C dry heat of the sauna. Luckily there’s also an ice room to cool you down again.

Does Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa do afternoon tea?

It does, and many of the spa days and packages on offer at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa include the indulgent treat.

Served in the glamorous Champagne Bar, you’ll savour an exquisite selection of delectable bite-sized sandwiches, delicate pastries and cakes, and, of course, signature scones with clotted cream and jam. Wash it down with an aromatic blend, a cheeky cocktail, or something blonde and bubbly if the occasion calls for it (and when doesn’t it?).

Is there accommodation at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa?

Here on a spa package that includes an overnight stay? You’re in luck. The hotel has 169 contemporary bedrooms ranging from comfortable classics and privilege rooms to suites. Tastefully decorated with vibrant pops of zesty shades, many offer spectacular views over Sheffield and the hills beyond. With free WiFi, coffee and tea makers and flat-screen TVs, you’ll find everything you need for a relaxing spa break.

Is Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa accessible?

Yes it is. Accessible bedrooms feature widened doorways, walk-in showers with a fitted shower seat, grab rails, panic cords and sliding doors. There's a ramp at the main entrance and the reception area has a lowered section for wheelchair users.

What time is check-in and check-out at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa?

You can check in anytime from 3pm, while check out is at 12pm. For spa day packages, arrival times vary, so do check your booking confirmation.

Where can I park at Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa?

The hotel doesn’t have its own car park on-site, but it does offer discounted parking for guests at two city centre car parks nearby.

Just a four-minute walk from the hotel, guests can get a 50% discount at the Britannia Car Park in Arundel Gate. To get there, use the postcode S1 2PN for your satnav. Pick up a parking ticket when entering, then present it at the hotel reception for validation.

Another four-minute walk from the hotel, guests can get a 25% discount at Q Park on Charles Street, but you’ll need to pre-book using the discount code MHCS25. The postcode for your sat nav is S1 2NJ.

Where is Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa?

Part of Mercure Sheffield St Paul's appeal is its prime position, right in the heart of the city centre. This highly desirable location showcases both Sheffield’s modern architecture and overlooks both the impressive Winter Garden (Europe’s largest urban glasshouse, home to more than 2,500 plants) and the Peace Gardens (famous for its fountains and water features).

Stay here and you’ll find all of Sheffield’s main attractions right on your doorstep. For example, just a two minute walk takes you to Millennium Galleries, a museum and art gallery that’s one of the most visited free attractions in England. You’re also within a stroll of great retail therapy at both Fargate and The Moor, Fargate shopping precincts with a host of big names and independents.

Is Sheffield a good location for a spa break?

It is! Back in the day, Sheffield was a major player in the Industrial Revolution and coal mining industry. But if you thought “Steel City” would be a concrete jungle, you may be in for a surprise. These days, Sheffield is less grey and more green – in fact, 61% of it is now green space, making it one of the greenest cities in Europe. If you’re after a breath of fresh air alongside all of your urban mod cons, this is the place to be.

What’s the history of Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s Hotel & Spa?

Mercure is a French midscale hotel brand, owned by the (equally French) multinational hospitality group, Accor. The brand’s Sheffield hotel is part of St Paul's Place, a pedestrianised development of restaurants, bars and retail space built in 2010.

Is Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa family-friendly?

Yes it is! The hotel is fabulously family-friendly with adjoining rooms, along with rooms that feature space for cots or an extra bed.

At the spa, children aged 17 years and under are not permitted to use the treatment and relaxation rooms unless booked into a specific treatment with anadult who is also receiving a treatment in the same treatment room. Children under 16 are not permitted to use the thermal suite.

Is Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa pet-friendly?

Sorry! You’ll have to leave your furry friends behind, as no pets are allowed at the hotel.

Does Mercure Sheffield St Paul's Hotel & Spa offer golf?

Can’t live without your clubs? Sadly Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s Hotel doesn’t have a golf course. But why let a little thing like a pampering city break get in the way of your game?

Hop on the Yellow Supertram at the stop by the Cathedral, and swing by Paradise Island Adventure Golf, situated in the Valley Centertainment leisure park. The courses are great fun and have some tricky curved putting greens for an extra challenge.
