About
Dreaming of misty morning walks, tempting treatments and hunkering down beside the crackling log fires of an enchanting Scottish hideaway? Turn your Highlands fantasy into reality with a spa retreat to Murrayshall Country Estate. Nestled in 365 acres of wide-open Perthshire countryside, yet just an hour’s drive from Edinburgh, you can easily lose a weekend wrapped in its dreamy charms.
The former home of Lord Lyndoech, this luxuriously boutique bolthole dates back over 400 years. But although you’ll find history and heritage at every turn, Murrayshall’s 40 rooms and suites are full of chic style and sophisticated design touches - think tartan in elegantly understated tones. Check into a ‘Snug’ room, tuck into the complimentary Scottish shortbread and gaze out on those panoramic Perthshire views.
Just when you thought you couldn’t relax even more, it’s time to be pampered. A short tiptoe down the drive takes you to Murrayshall’s sumptuous gate house spa. There’s no pool, thermal or wet facilities here, just two tempting treatment rooms dedicated to spoiling you with high-end organic Ishga rituals, using natural seaweed products from the Hebrides.
Besides the spa, there are plenty of things to do. Sporty types can play a round on Murrayshall Country Estate’s first-class golf courses, while the hotel can organise everything from yoga and laser clay shooting to kayak tours and salmon fishing. Hire push or e-bikes to explore the enchanted woodlands of the estate, or just head off on foot for a signposted stroll amid the towering trees.
Further afield, Murrayshall Country Estate is just a 10-minute drive from the charming riverside city of Perth, with its palace, museums, shops and racecourse. The hotel is also on the edge of the mediaeval town of Scone, home to the impressive Scone Palace, the former crowning place of Scottish Kings.
But when you’ve finished exploring for the day, award-winning dining at Murrayshall awaits. Settle in for an aperitif by the fire at Barossa, the bar at the heart of the hotel. Eòlas (pronounced Olass), showcases the very best of Perthshire’s larder, while the laidback Cairns offers classic gastropub fare with a twist.
