About

When your mind and body are desperate for a getaway, the stylish Ockenden Manor matches all of your criteria and then some. Set amid eight acres of tranquil West Sussex countryside, this former Elizabethan manor house is as elegant as it gets. From the moment you walk through the door, your tensions will start to fade into the distance.

An ivy-clad, quintessentially English getaway full of history and charm, there’s an elegant sitting room warmed by a roaring fire and a cosy, wood-panelled bar that makes a great place for evening cocktails. And all this fine, country living is less than an hour from London.

You’ll want to explore the local area while you’re here, starting perhaps with some retail therapy in Haywards Heath. Take a ride back in time on the fabulous Bluebell Railway, savour the exquisite greenery at Borde Hill Gardens and soak up some history at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. And if you have a head for heights, check out the views from Brighton’s i360.

There are 27 wonderfully comfortable bedrooms at Ockenden Manor, so an overnight stay represents a major temptation. There’s a highly rated gym to be enjoyed here, and the glorious spa is home to eight peaceful treatment rooms. And your inner foodie will surely fall in love with the award-winning restaurant that’s waiting to wow you.

The Spa & Wellness at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa

The recipe for unrivalled bliss? You’ll find it here. Ockenden Manor’s luxurious spa has all the ingredients for a truly one-of-kind spa experience.

Nestled within Ockenden Manor’s 19th century walled glorious parkland, the spa’s design is dramatic, contemporary and cubist - a real contrast to the ivy-clad, grey-stone historic hotel. Yet with floor-to-ceiling glass bringing the outside-in and a natural design aesthetic, the spa compliments its garden surroundings to perfection.

Check in, chill out, then let the pampering commence. You’ll pad about this light and airy space, encased in the luxury of your fluffy robe and slippers. Succumb to sheer indulgence with a dip in the heated indoor swimming pool. A clever swim-through feature lets you paddle outdoors to enjoy the sunshine. But will you choose to have a warm, luxurious spa bath inside, or out in the garden? Decisions, decisions.

Flit between the dry heat of the sauna and the scented air in the steam room, but make sure you make time for a trip to the rainforest. Ockenden Manor’s incredible experience shower is fed by its own natural spring to leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed.

Then it’s time for a deep dive into euphoria with a signature Ockenden Manor treatment. There’s a whole suite of rooms dedicated to soul-soothing, body-beautifying, head-clearing rituals, including an Isopod flotation tank for total muscle relaxation and utter escapism.

Treatments are offered in partnership with Elemental Herbology, which uses principles of traditional Chinese medicine to help you find your zen. Or go for something that uses the reiki-based Light Technique, developed by renowned holistic wellness expert Katie Light.

And to make sure you float out looking just as good as you feel, there’s a whole menu of beauty treats to give you that perfect finishing touch.

The Gym & Fitness at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa

Nailing your fitness goals is easy when you’re soaking up the stunning surroundings of the spa at Ockenden Manor. Everything here is geared towards enhancing your wellness, from the sleek, modern exercise equipment to the many movement experiences on offer.

A fully equipped gym offers cardio, free weights and resistance machines, and there are personal trainers on-hand to maximise your results. The spa also has a fitness studio for pilates and yoga classes if you like to workout with friends.

Prefer your exercise with lashings of fresh air? You’re in for a treat. The hotel has nine acres of grounds to stroll around, but if that’s not enough you’re just a stone’s throw from Cuckfield Recreation Ground which has three tennis courts and plenty of space for a jog. You can even go Nordic walking through local vineyards, gorgeous gardens and shaded woodland.

Restaurants & Food at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa

You’ve nurtured your body with heat and water. You’ve nourished it with a luxurious spa treatment. Now it’s time to nibble on something delectable, and Ockenden Manor has just the thing. Some truly indulgent eating and drinking options await, and they all use produce sourced from the bountiful Sussex area that surrounds you.

The restaurant

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in Ockenden Manor’s sublime dining room so there’s always something delicious to tuck into throughout the day. Forget calorie-controlled, rabbit-food sized portions - the food here is just as indulgent as your trip to the spa. Take your pick from the set Sussex menu, but make sure you leave room for dessert - you wouldn’t want to miss the apple and rhubarb mess.

The drawing room and bar

Not in the mood for something fancy? The bar has a fabulously relaxed atmosphere and makes a great spot for lighter bites, a coffee or a pre-dinner cocktail. Enjoy the cosy fire in the drawing room but when the sun shines you can head out to the terrace and gardens for a perfectly poured gin and tonic.

We loved our visit to Ockenden Manor Spa. The indoor pool leads to the outdoor pool and there was enough facilities for the number of guests there without it being too crowded. We had the muscle melt massage which was relaxing. We can't wait for our next visit!

The spa was great, a lovely pool, both inside and out, lovely facilities, towels and dressing gowns provided. Wonderful full body massage. Lunch included with our package, the menus are rather repetitive and very poor choices for vegetarians.

We arrived for a spa afternoon starting with a 2 course meal which we so enjoyed in the lovely country garden. The staff were very attentive and added to the experience. Then we headed for our treatment. So loved the products and the treatment overall. We were both more than happy with the whole experience. Elle was so lovely. We then spent a few hours round the pool relaxing in the sunshine. We will definitely be returning in the near future.

Lovely spa day with excellent facilities - the indoor/outdoor pool is fantastic, sauna, steam room & Jacuzzi. Not too busy which was fabulous. Used the gym which was small but had some machines and weights. The full body massage was brilliant and the facial and the products used were gorgeous and natural. Lunch at the hotel was wonderful too and service excellent. The hotel, spa and gardens are wonderful Sussex historic buildings, such a beautiful setting. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Had such a lovely time with my daughter and will return soon! Thank you.

It does, and they’ll ensure your spa break really has the wow-factor. All 28 bespoke bedrooms and distinctive suites are all individually styled and each is named after a member of one of the two families that owned the building since 1520.

In the historic manor, some feature rooms boast Tudor oak panelling and four-poster beds, while in the contemporary spa building, modern suites above the pool come beautifully decorated and have patio doors to a sun terrace.

Although all rooms are unique, each one includes a bathroom crammed with Temple Spa goodies, handmade Vispring mattresses, fluffy dressing gowns, homemade biscuits to eat with your Nespresso machine coffee and free WiFi.

Is Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa accessible?

It is, but Ockenden Manor itself is an old building full of period features. There are accessible toilets on the ground floor, and lifts to treatment rooms in the purpose-buildt spa..

Where is Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa?

Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa is in Cuckfield, the West Sussex enclave widely thought of as one of the prettiest Tudor villages in England. Cuckfield’s bustling high street is well-worth a visit, with boutique shops selling everything from vintage furniture to jewellery and pre-loved designer clothing. Looking to explore further afield? The buzzing seaside town of Brighton is just 20 minutes away.

Is there a dress code at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa?

Despite its grand good looks, staying at the Ockenden Manor is relaxed and informal. In the spa you’ll drift around in your robe. What facilities are on offer at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa?

Ockenden Manor has everything you need to help you rest and rejuvenate in style. Wander through nine acres of private gardens, sip a G and T at the oak panelled bar or al fresco on a sunny terrace, then dine at a sumptuous restaurant on the best ingredients Sussex can offer. After dinner, pull up a squishy chair in front of the open fire in the cosy drawing room for a nightcap.

The award-winning spa lets you take a dip at the stunning indoor-outdoor pool, have a relaxing rainforest experience in a unique shower, and float away to bliss in the Isopod floatation tank. Feeling more energetic? There’s a well-equipped gym and fitness studio with a weekly calendar of classes to try.

What should I pack for Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa?

Robes, towels and slippers are provided, but you’ll need your swimwear, and dry underwear to wear to your treatment. Morning and all-day packages generally start at either 9am or 10am, while afternoon packages begin at 12pm. Evening spa experiences start at 4.30pm.

Is Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa family-friendly?

It is! While treatments and poolside spa facilities such as hot tub, sauna and steam room are adults only, children aged under 16 can splash about in the pool between 10am and 11am and 3.30pm to 5pm each day.

There are several comfortable room options available if you’re bringing little ones, from sofa beds and interconnecting rooms to entire cottages. And there’s plenty to keep them entertained nearby. Just nine miles away you can hop on a real steam train! The authentic and well-preserved Bluebell Railway takes you back in time as you chug through the West Sussex countryside at a gentle pace.
