About
When your mind and body are desperate for a getaway, the stylish Ockenden Manor matches all of your criteria and then some. Set amid eight acres of tranquil West Sussex countryside, this former Elizabethan manor house is as elegant as it gets. From the moment you walk through the door, your tensions will start to fade into the distance.
An ivy-clad, quintessentially English getaway full of history and charm, there’s an elegant sitting room warmed by a roaring fire and a cosy, wood-panelled bar that makes a great place for evening cocktails. And all this fine, country living is less than an hour from London.
You’ll want to explore the local area while you’re here, starting perhaps with some retail therapy in Haywards Heath. Take a ride back in time on the fabulous Bluebell Railway, savour the exquisite greenery at Borde Hill Gardens and soak up some history at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. And if you have a head for heights, check out the views from Brighton’s i360.
There are 27 wonderfully comfortable bedrooms at Ockenden Manor, so an overnight stay represents a major temptation. The Spa & Wellness at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa
The recipe for unrivalled bliss? You’ll find it here. Ockenden Manor’s luxurious spa has all the ingredients for a truly one-of-kind spa experience.
Nestled within Ockenden Manor’s 19th century walled glorious parkland, the spa’s design is dramatic, contemporary and cubist - a real contrast to the ivy-clad, grey-stone historic hotel. Yet with floor-to-ceiling glass bringing the outside-in and a natural design aesthetic, the spa compliments its garden surroundings to perfection.
Check in, chill out, then let the pampering commence. You’ll pad about this light and airy space, encased in the luxury of your fluffy robe and slippers. Succumb to sheer indulgence with a dip in the heated indoor swimming pool. A clever swim-through feature lets you paddle outdoors to enjoy the sunshine. But will you choose to have a warm, luxurious spa bath inside, or out in the garden? Decisions, decisions.
Flit between the dry heat of the sauna and the scented air in the steam room, but make sure you make time for a trip to the rainforest. Ockenden Manor’s incredible experience shower is fed by its own natural spring to leave your skin feeling soft and refreshed.
Then it’s time for a deep dive into euphoria with a signature Ockenden Manor treatment. There’s a whole suite of rooms dedicated to soul-soothing, body-beautifying, head-clearing rituals, including an Isopod flotation tank for total muscle relaxation and utter escapism.
Treatments are offered in partnership with Elemental Herbology, which uses principles of traditional Chinese medicine to help you find your zen. Or go for something that uses the reiki-based Light Technique, developed by renowned holistic wellness expert Katie Light.
And to make sure you float out looking just as good as you feel, there’s a whole menu of beauty treats to give you that perfect finishing touch.
The Gym & Fitness at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa
Nailing your fitness goals is easy when you’re soaking up the stunning surroundings of the spa at Ockenden Manor. Everything here is geared towards enhancing your wellness, from the sleek, modern exercise equipment to the many movement experiences on offer.
A fully equipped gym offers cardio, free weights and resistance machines, and there are personal trainers on-hand to maximise your results. The spa also has a fitness studio for pilates and yoga classes if you like to workout with friends.
Prefer your exercise with lashings of fresh air? You’re in for a treat. The hotel has nine acres of grounds to stroll around, but if that’s not enough you’re just a stone’s throw from Cuckfield Recreation Ground which has three tennis courts and plenty of space for a jog. You can even go Nordic walking through local vineyards, gorgeous gardens and shaded woodland.
Restaurants & Food at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa
You’ve nurtured your body with heat and water. You’ve nourished it with a luxurious spa treatment. Now it’s time to nibble on something delectable, and Ockenden Manor has just the thing. Some truly indulgent eating and drinking options await, and they all use produce sourced from the bountiful Sussex area that surrounds you.
The restaurant
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in Ockenden Manor’s sublime dining room so there’s always something delicious to tuck into throughout the day. Forget calorie-controlled, rabbit-food sized portions - the food here is just as indulgent as your trip to the spa. Take your pick from the set Sussex menu, but make sure you leave room for dessert - you wouldn’t want to miss the apple and rhubarb mess.
The drawing room and bar
Not in the mood for something fancy? The bar has a fabulously relaxed atmosphere and makes a great spot for lighter bites, a coffee or a pre-dinner cocktail. Enjoy the cosy fire in the drawing room but when the sun shines you can head out to the terrace and gardens for a perfectly poured gin and tonic.
