About

Planning an indulgent spa escape? What better location than Cheltenham. Although most famous for being home to one of the biggest fixtures in British horse racing, the Regency town is an elegant destination in its own right, and one that oozes cultured charm.

A destination this iconic deserves a hotel that’s just as special, and the Revive Spa at DoubleTree by Hilton Cheltenham ticks all the boxes. Tucked away in the picturesque Gloucestershire countryside, this traditional Georgian manor is less than two miles from the town centre and three miles from Cheltenham racecourse. Yet its uplifting features make it feel world’s away from the hustle and bustle - think elegant architecture, breathtaking grounds and even its own ornamental lake.

Step inside the grand lobby with its high ceilings and marble pillars to feel an instant sense of history alongside the tranquility. Built in 1833, the former home to several notable families became a hotel in the 1920s and was lovingly restored and refurbished in 2017.

But the Revive Spa at DoubleTree by Hilton Cheltenham’s centuries’ old heritage is only part of its charm. Home to a fresh and modern health club, luxurious leisure facilities will see you unwinding in the toasty waters of the hot tub, working out in the state-of-the-art gym, then cooling off with some laps of the indoor swimming pool. Then just feel yourself drift away with an Elemis ritual in one of the spa’s three treatment rooms.

A fabulous location means that the shops, restaurants and Regency architecture of Cheltenham are close at hand. Go for a flutter at the racecourse, hike in the picturesque scenery and stop at a cosy country pub or two. Further afield, Gloucester and its historic castle are a short drive from the hotel.

Days of spa-ing and sightseeing are sublime, but overnight stays are even more exquisite. You can unwind in style in one of DoubleTree by Hilton Cheltenham’s 150 sumptuous rooms, before heading down to dinner at the elegant Lakeside Restaurant. Time for a night-cap? The Lilley Brook Bar & Lounge is so cosy you’ll want to settle in for the night.

Such an exquisite hotel deserves a spa that’s just as luxurious, and this idyllic oasis doesn’t disappoint. Nested in its own separate area within the hotel’s King’s Health Club, it encourages you to stop, take a breath and indulge in a little me-time.

After you’ve had your fill of the indoor swimming pool, bubbling Jacuzzi and thermal suite, it's time to pad in your robe to one of three tranquil treatment rooms so your restorative ritual can commence.

Lay back and smell the scented candles while skilled therapists and masseuses pamper you with Elemis facials, massages and scrubs. Then all that’s left is to pull up a poolside lounger to drift even deeper into bliss.

What makes this a very good spa experience are the staff. They are very welcoming and attentive. The food on the package is worth it. Just be mindful this is a 2 course meal and drinks not included in the package. Breakfast is a buffet with a lot of choices. My therapist is Clare she is very good and it was very relaxing experience. The products used was elemis which is highly recommended. The steam room was out of order during our visit which is a shame. There is only one sauna and Jacuzzi. Please be mindful, it is busy on times when children are allowed on the pool, they have an hour slot in the morning and in the afternoon. So may want to access the pool before these hours. Our room was facing the lake but it was very warm with only one fan, no air-conditioning which was uncomfortable. The hotel is renovating, so expecting it to be much better.

We arrived around 11.15am and were made to feel most welcome by the lady on reception. Our towels and robes were ready and we were directed to the changing area. The pool emptied of children at 11.30 and the Jacuzzi was put back on. From that point on it was relaxing, not crowded. The Sauna and Steam room were both good. Free tea and coffee throughout the visit was a lovely perk and iced water was always available. Our treatments we at 2pm. A back, neck and shoulder followed by a scalp My male massage therapist Stan was so knowledgeable and skilled. He loosened all the tension in my spine and neck. My friend reported having the most relaxing massage ever. We then went for afternoon tea and the lady in the bar was so lovely. Again making us welcome, meeting all our needs. This was great value for money.

Although the spa itself looks a little tired and tatty our treatments were fantastic (best massage I have had in a long time), the afternoon tea was delicious and the staff were super helpful. Very good value for money. Take your own flipflops as they are not supplied and make sure you call in advance to confirm your treatment times. The instructions told us to arrive at 1pm, luckily I called in advance to check and was told our treatments were booked in for 12.45pm.

The pool & Jacuzzi were out of order but the hotel communicated with us in advance and gave us the option to postpone but, as we’re only visiting the area we opted to go ahead. The changing rooms and communal areas were a bit tired, but clean. The treatments we received were excellent, as was the afternoon tea.

The treatments were lovely, staff very friendly. There was nowhere in the spa to just chill and relax. The main area’s of the hotel were very cold, our room was very good. In the bar I ordered a cup of tea but was told they had no cups so I couldn’t have one and at breakfast on Sunday they ran out of breakfast bowls.

Booking the spa experience was super easy and hassle free along with booking treatment times, easy. My mum and I had a fabulous special day for her 80th birthday treat. The light lunch was so much more than we thought, an afternoon tea filled with fresh sumptuous finger sandwiches and a mouth watering selection of cakes and cream scones. The spa itself was spotless and the treatment ladies Gabby and Becky were very caring towards my mum and I asking when necessary if pressure was ok etc, and gave great neck shoulder and back massages. We will definitely return.
