Like to crunch before lunch? Sadly, there’s no gym at Taplow House Hotel & Spa but that doesn’t mean you won’t have opportunities to work out.

As you might expect from a retreat that’s surrounded by gorgeous countryside, you can savour some unforgettable walks and runs here, accompanied by views that may well take your breath away. Make sure you jog past Taplow House’s enormous tulip trees, thought to be the tallest and fattest in Europe.

This area is also home to a number of popular cycle routes, so if you enjoy life on two wheels you’re going to love it here. In addition, you’ll find several impressive golf courses nearby, waiting to help you while away a few hours of escapism.

The Grenfell Lounge

Hate spas where they make you get dressed for lunch? If you can’t bear to leave the cocooning comfort of your robe, you’re in luck. The Grenfell Lounge (named after the former Marlow MP, Pascoe Grenfell who owned the house in 1794) is your location for spa lunching and it’s a beautiful space, with an open fireplace, huge sofas, squishy cream carpet and large doors that overlook the gardens. The menu changes daily, but expect three deliciously light courses, with two options to choose from for starters, mains and desserts. 

The Bar & Drawing Room

An informal place to meet before your pampering spa package commences (or for a cheeky espresso martini afterwards) you’ll find a roaring open fire, cosy armchairs and an extensive drinks menu. 

The Garden Room

Serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, this elegant, yet informal dining room has large French doors opening out onto a terrace, for al fresco meals when the weather is warm. The accent here is on seasonal, locally sourced cuisine with a twist - the steamed bao buns win rave reviews!

No, there’s no swimming pool at Taplow House, but that doesn’t mean you won’t get wet! The stunning outdoor hydrotherapy pool is the jewel in the spa’s crown and there’s room for ten of you, making it the perfect place to catch up as you unwind.

At the spa you’ll find a sauna and a hydrotherapy pool with stunning views of the gardens. There are five single treatment rooms, as well as one large double treatment room. 

At the hotel there are 30 cosy bedrooms filled with period features, along with five acres of landscaped gardens to explore. 

The Garden Room restaurant offers delectable dining, traditional afternoon tea is served in the Drawing Room while the Grenfell Lounge in the spa offers light, healthy lunches.

Taplow House Hotel & Spa is in the pretty village of Taplow, close to Windsor and Marlow and just a stone’s throw from the Thames. You can be at Ascot racecourse in under half an hour.

The hotel’s dress code is smart-casual, but it’s quite a relaxed, informal space. Smart trainers are allowed.

You can check in to your hotel room anytime after 2pm, while check-out time is at 11am. You’re free to leave your bags outside of these times and enjoy the hotel’s facilities. 

Taplow House Hotel & Spa welcomes children, but the spa is for adults aged 16 and over. Some rooms in the hotel can accommodate extra beds for children, while five of the bedrooms have sofa beds suitable for children up to 12 years old. 

You and your canine companion come as a pair? They’re welcome at Taplow House Hotel. The hotel has pooch-friendly rooms on offer, for an additional charge of £20 per night per dog, and they’ll even get their own beds and bowls. 

Well-behaved hounds can accompany their owners in the Drawing Room, Bar, and on the Terrace. But no dogs are allowed in the Garden Room Restaurant or Spa Lounge.

Yes. At the hotel you’ll find an accessible toilet on the ground floor in reception, with tracked wheelchair stair climber access to the first floor bedrooms. Both the restaurants and the terrace are on the ground floor and have direct access from the main hotel entrance via a ramp. 

The basement level spa is accessed via a tracked wheelchair stair climber. The pool has three steps, and there is a handrail to assist you.

The hotel offers one room with partially modified facilities for use by disabled guests. 

It doesn’t, but the Buckinghamshire-Berkshire area has more greens and fairways than you can point your nine-iron at. Nearest to the hotel is the 18-hole course at Huntswood Golf Club at just a seven-minute drive away. With stunning views of the countryside, it’s open to visitors seven days a week.
