About
A Manchester hotel with riverside views, art exhibitions, celebrity fans and a two-AA-Rosette-winning restaurant? It could only be The Lowry Hotel. Slap-bang in the centre yet with a pin-drop peaceful setting on the River Irwell, Manchester’s first-ever five-star property has always had a buzz about it. But with the launch of its futuristic RE:TREAT spa, it’s hitting the headlines all over again.
Featuring blonde wood and walls of plants, RE:TREAT looks suitably zen. But it’s the new trio of space-age experiences that have got spa aficionados talking. Dubbed the ‘The Holy Trinity of Hollywood treatments’ thanks to their A-list fan base, there’s a meditation pod, sensory deprivation tank and cryotherapy chamber. A slick Technogym and rituals from uber-cool spa brand Grown Alchemist add to the cutting-edge feel.
Head up to the first floor where footballers and musicians rub shoulders while they feast on dynamic flavours at River Restaurant. Chill out in your enormous room - the most spacious in the city, many boast floor-to-ceiling windows for spectacular city views. The design is modern, urban and chic. But it’s not all style and no substance here - beds, sofas and chairs offer the utmost comfort.
Best of all, magnificent Manchester’s right on your doorstep. Once the heart of the country’s textile industry, today it is better known for music, football, science and culture - and more retail opportunities than you can shake your credit card at. Manchester Cathedral is a Grade-I listed masterpiece, MediaCityUK is perfect for a spot of sightseeing, while nearby Spinningfields is a vibrant hub of entertainment and shopping. Our guess? You’ll be mad for it.
And The Lowry Hotel puts you at the centre of it all. As much a part of the fabric of the city as its matchstick-men-painting namesake, it’s luxurious, but never stuffy or pretentious. So come for a spa day and stay for a glass of something bubbly with riverside views on the longest terrace in Manchester. Celeb-spot in The Lowry Lounge & Bar, or just admire the ever-changing artwork exhibitions. Innovative, energetic and inspired by Manchester’s independent spirit, The Lowry Hotel is really something special.

The Spa & Wellness at The Lowry Hotel
Futuristic wellness with a celebrity endorsement? You’ll find it at RE:TREAT. The Lowry Hotel’s ultra-luxe spa is the first in the UK to house three of the world’s most technologically-advanced spa experiences all under one roof.
Freeze yourself healthy in Icepod, the spa’s cryotherapy chamber. Being exposed to -110 Celsius temperatures induces the release of anti-inflammatory hormones and promotes a sensation of deep relaxation.
Find your zen in Somadome, an egg-shaped meditation pod. Combining colour and sound therapy, select how you want to feel - creative, rested or energised. Then just lay back on a comfy chair and enjoy your tailored mindfulness meditation session.
Float your stress away in the Isopod. Tucked in its own low-lit room, this sensory deprivation flotation tank gives you a sense of weightlessness that will transport you to a world of calm and tranquility.
If they don’t come as part of your package, each one of these space-aged spa experiences is chargeable.
Prefer something a bit more traditional? Six stunning treatment rooms offer mouth-watering massages and facials from cutting-edge brands like GAIA and Grown Alchemist. Pay a bit extra and you can even choose to have a treatment wearing VR goggles to be transported to a beach in the Seychelles while you’re pampered.
The Gym & Fitness at The Lowry Hotel
Good news for fitness fashionistas! Spa packages at The Lowry Hotel include access to its chic on-site gym and fitness classes. Pack your snazziest activewear - the hotel’s such a celebrity hangout you could find yourself downward dogging next to the stars!
With free weights and Technogym cardio machines, the small (yet perfectly formed) gym has everything you need for a whole-body workout. Don’t like to go it alone? Visit the super swish RE:TREAT Studio for specialised wellness classes like Tantric yoga, somatic yoga and Pilates.
For those who like to exercise outdoors, you’ll find plenty of fantastic running and walking spots on the hotel’s doorstep. The Lowry Hotel can even suggest a two-mile route that takes in views of Beetham Tower, the Museum of Science and Industry, and Manchester Cathedral - so you can sightsee while you sweat.
Restaurants & Food at The Lowry Hotel
Five-star hotels need five-star eating and drinking options, and The Lowry Hotel doesn’t disappoint. Hit The Lowry Bar & Lounge for happy hour. Indulge with a perfectly prepared cocktail, some tempting small plates and a spot of our live music.
Dinner at its two-AA-rosette-winning River Restaurant is a very elegant affair, complete with riverside views. There’s even a fabulous al-fresco terrace (said to be the city’s largest) for a pre-dinner glass of bubbly.
Featuring a dynamic menu inspired by a variety of cuisines, there’s sure to be something that takes your fancy. Can’t decide? The pared-down Chef’s Choice Menu showcases the best of the best, selected by the talented team themselves.

Reviews
Frequently Asked Questions
Does The Lowry Hotel do afternoon tea?
It does, and like the hotel it’s a five-star experience. Featuring delicate pastries and savoury treats, the experience is a journey into culinary elegance. In fact The Lowry Hotel is the only hotel in the city that makes their own pastry from scratch. Expect innovative twists on the tradition each time you visit. The Lowry Hotel recently had a bee-themed afternoon tea featuring honey-infused treats, for example.
Is there a swimming pool at The Lowry Hotel?
No. The RE:TREAT at The Lowry Hotel is an urban spa and as such, it does not have any wet facilities. What it does have, though, are results-driven treatments along with a relaxation room and some unique spa experiences. If a spa experience comes as part of your package you can choose from the cryotherapy chamber, meditation pod and sensory deprivation tank.
Is there accommodation at The Lowry Hotel?
There sure is. Check in for the night in one of the 165 rooms, including five junior suites, six riverside suites and one top-of-the-range Presidential suite. No matter which one you choose you’ll have a great night’s sleep - they all offer unparalleled comfort and luxury.
Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, walk-in wardrobes and huge comfy beds. Deluxe and Superior rooms are exactly the same in size, but the upgrade gives you restful river views, fluffy bathrobes and a leather chaise longue to relax on.
What is the history of The Lowry Hotel?
Built in 2001, Manchester’s first five-star hotel sits on the original site of a printing company famous for creating the Dandy and Beano comics.
Named after the 20th-century painter L.S. Lowry, the hotel still proudly supports its local artists. The public areas and hallways of The Lowry Hotel feature a rotating exhibition of artists and photographers whose work captures Manchester’s edge and energy.
Is there a dress code at The Lowry Hotel?
Yes there is. No need to pack a ball gown, but you’ll need something smart-casual for the bar and River Restaurant.
Where is The Lowry Hotel located?
The Lowry Hotel is picturesquely perched on the River Irwell, just over the border in Salford. You’ll find it in the recently-developed Chapel Wharf area, just a five-minute stroll to the bright lights of the city centre. Exchange Square and Spinningfields are both within easy walking distance, too.
Is The Lowry Hotel family-friendly?
Yes it is. So if you’ve got a luxury-loving little one, bring them along! From the Chill Factore indoor ski slope to museum’s galore, Manchester’s full of exciting things to do, and The Lowry Hotel makes an excellent base to explore them all.
If they’re under 12, sofa bed rooms will keep you all comfy, or choose interconnecting rooms if you’re travelling with teens. In the school holidays they even put on special kids’ amenities, such as ‘Lowry Loot’ that the kids can spend in the hotel on cookies and mocktails.
Is The Lowry Hotel accessible?
Yes it is. The hotel was purpose-built in 2001. As a result, guests with additional access needs can stay in rooms which feature lowered wardrobes and desks, more space and extra features such as vibrating pillows in case of emergency.
Is The Lowry Hotel pet-friendly?
Tell Fido to pack his suitcase. He’s coming to Manchester! Two dogs, per room, can stay at The Lowry Hotel, for £30 each in a pet-friendly room. For that they’ll get their own bed, water bowls and doggie treats will be provided. And with no upper size limit all pups are welcome, whether you’ve got a St Bernard or a chihuahua.
Take them for walkies by the river, then wipe muddy paws at reception with the towels provided. Then, when it’s time for din-dins, good boys and girls can join you on the terrace - just not in the bar or restaurant.
