Not a gym lover? We hear you. Work out in the sunshine with a power-walk or jog along the promenade into Grange-over-Sands. The hotel backs onto Brown Robin Nature Reserve, an atmospheric patch of woodland known for its wildlife and birdsong. 

Because the hotel’s in such close proximity to the Lake District, longer hikes abound. Lace up your boots for a relaxing ramble around Windermere. Just a 15-minute drive away, England’s largest natural lake has a web of superb lakeside and woodland trails that take you to viewpoints of awe-inspiring magnificence.

The Dining Room

Fancy getting fancy? Netherwood’s elegant Dining Room will fit the bill. Open from 6.15pm until 8.30pm, this fabulous foodie hang-out is the destination for sumptuous a la carte eating. Period features make a great talking point while you’re tucking into your starters - as do the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. 

But what to eat? Local produce is the order of the day here. Try the Cartmell Valley smoked salmon to start, followed by some local game or the freshest catches straight from the boat at Morecambe Bay for your main. For dessert? That’s easy - the homemade sticky toffee pudding is not to be missed! 

The Bar and Lounges

Pull up a seat at the bar for your post-pampering g and t, or sink into a comfy Chesterfield sofa to eat a sandwich served on bloomer bread. Relaxed and informal, the bar and lounges are the place to head for snacks, drinks and nibbles.

No, there’s no swimming pool at Netherwood Hotel & Spa. But with wooden hot tubs, an aroma steam room, a salt inhalation room and a monsoon shower to enjoy, you will still need to pack your cossie!

The perfect end to a pampering spa break? Being able to drift off to sleep in a fabulous bedroom after all the frivolities. Luckily, Netherwood Hotel & Spa lets you do just that in one of 33 rooms, each one individually styled and crammed with little luxuries.

At the main house, 28 ensuite rooms have fantastic views across Morecambe Bay or out over woodlands at the back of the hotel. Here with a group? The Turrets is a charming stone cottage nestled in the grounds with its own hot tub. It sleeps up to eight guests. Or for four people, try Treehaven, a chalet with its own sun-drenched garden and hot tub. Bliss!

You can check in to Netherwood from 3pm, while check-out time is 11am for all residential guests. For spa days, arrival times vary so please check your booking confirmation.

When it comes to location, location, location, it doesn’t get much better than this. The hotel and spa is situated in the elegant seaside town of Grange-over-Sands, with its promenade, ornamental gardens, and independent shops and cafés. Perfect for ramblers, it’s just one mile outside of the Lake District National Park with Lake Windermere a 15-minute drive away.

You’ll need to bring your swimwear for the fabulous spa facilities, and your gym kit if you fancy a workout in the well-equipped gym. Don’t forget your book or a magazine for all that lounging around you’ll be doing. And, if you’re planning on lunch or dinner in the dining room you’ll need something smart-casual to wear.

Although the thermal experience and spa are blissfully adults only, the hotel welcomes children. There are interconnecting rooms and sofa beds available, and in the bar, lounges or restaurant they can order from a children’s menu filled with dishes perfect for picky eaters.

The Lake District is famously dog-friendly, and Netherwood Hotel & Spa is no exception. Pampered pooches are welcome to join you in the bar and lounges, and can even spend the night in the hotel’s dog-friendly bedrooms. They can’t be left unattended, and are not allowed to set a paw in the spa or restaurant. You can book your pet into the hotel at a charge of £20 per dog per night.

It is. Disabled parking can be reserved on request and there’s lift access from the courtyard at the entrance to the spa on the lower ground floor to the first floor.

Netherwood is owned by Squirrel Hotels, a family-owned business based in the North of England. There are four hotels in the Squirrel collection. Alongside Netherwood there’s Bells Hotel & Golf Club in the Forest of Dean, the Morritt Barnard Castle and Hall Garth Darlington.

Yes you can. Parking is free at Netherwood Hotel & Spa Hotel and you don’t need to make a reservation. 

There’s no golf course at Netherwood but that doesn’t mean you should leave your clubs at home. Round off your pampering treat by teeing off at the spectacular Grange-over-Sands Golf Club. 

Just half a mile from Netherwood’s doorstep, visitors are welcome every day of the week at this mature MacKenzie-designed course. Well-kept, level fairways make the course a great one for beginners, whilst the challenging layout adds interest if you’re more experienced.
