About
There’s loads to love about Devon’s capital city. Roman history, fabulous shopping, a gorgeous quay - and The Retreat Spa at Hotel Indigo Exeter. This heavenly hideaway has two spacious hydro pools, a waterfall shower, steam room and sauna. And with Elemis rituals to soothe you, it’s perfect whenever you need a breather from the bustling city centre.
Slap-bang on Exeter high street, if you think the boutique hotel looks a little like a department store from your childhood days, you’d be right! Great for nostalgia-lovers, this former House of Fraser dates back to 1792 when Mrs Colson opened her hat store. A luxurious refurb has brought the building’s rich retail history back to life - the buzzy lobby has the old steel Colson’s canopy and a haberdashery cabinet for the reception desk!
Tempted to turn your spa day into a spa stay? We don’t blame you. The hotel’s 104 rooms play quirky homage to Exeter’s past. Wake up to a Nespresso coffee in your stylishly decorated room with its quirky art, chic wallpaper and patterned tiles - some even have stunning cathedral views. Feel energised with a workout in the luxurious private gym, watch the big game at the Dugout Bar or enjoy some destination dining in Colson’s.
As locations go, you couldn’t get any more central. Exeter’s gothic cathedral with its 15th-century astrological clock is just steps away, as is the incredible retail therapy at Gandy Street or Princesshay. Royal Albert Memorial Museum is well worth a visit, while a ten-minute walk takes you to the historic Quayside area, perfect for a romantic riverside stroll. Fancy heading further afield? A stay in Exeter puts you in pole position for sandy beaches and the moody Dartmoor moors.
But our guess is you won’t want to stray too far from The Retreat Spa at Hotel Indigo Exeter. Pad down to the basement, pull on a soft robe and pour yourself a cup of fruit-infused water. While away the hours in the heat and hydro experiences of this oasis of calm. Just make sure you leave time to enjoy an Elemis ritual - and perhaps a glass of bubbles for added decadence.
