About
Dreaming of a deeply nurturing wellbeing boost? You’ll find it at TOR, an Ayurvedic spa retreat deep in leafy Kent. Just five miles from Canterbury in the pretty village of Ickham, it’s surrounded by pin-drop peaceful gardens. And, with its own tranquil lake, this is a place to relax and re-energise.
Not heard of Ayurveda? Where have you been hiding? It may sound like a hyped-up wellness trend, but this Indian system of holistic medicine has stood the test of time (some 5,000 years to be precise). Based on the delicate balance between the mind, body and spirit, Ayurveda’s soul-soothing treatments have a long list of health benefits. But beyond the next-level massages and facials, Ayurveda is a lifestyle - and it’s one you’ll fully embrace during your time here.
Sun yourself on the lakeside decking. Sip on Ayurvedic infusions and soak up the soul-soothing views from the lakeside conservatory. Wallow in the blissfully warm indoor pool. It’s oxygenated, so no chemical nasties will spoil your zen. Open pores in the sauna and breathe deeply in the stone steam room. Even the two-course vegetarian or vegan lunch embraces Ayurvedic principles - it’s a communal affair using locally-sourced or home-grown vegetables.
Spa days at TOR Spa Retreat may feel as relaxing as a holiday, but if you did want to make a longer break of it, six bright and modern bedrooms await. There’s plenty to do, thanks to a dream location that leaves you well-placed to explore the Kent coastline. Deal, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate and Ramsgate are all within easy reach.Or make a pilgrimage to Canterbury to see the world-famous Cathedral and indulge in a spot of retail therapy.
Whether you seek a serene sanctuary, a holistic oasis, or a group getaway with friends, TOR Spa Retreat delivers an experience that’s far beyond the ordinary. More than just a spa, it's an Ayurvedic retreat that wholly embraces the healthy ethos - and it’s one that’s sure to wow you.

The Spa & Wellness at TOR Spa Retreat
Knotted shoulders and an aching neck? A trip to the sublime TOR Spa Retreat is just what the doctor ordered. The perfect antidote to life’s stresses and strains, its Ayurvedic treatments, thermal facilities and tranquil spa garden are just what you need to relax, refresh and recuperate.
First stop on your journey to holistic wellness? It has to be a treatment. Pick from an encyclopaedia of Ayurvedic delights that include energising facials and oil-drenched massages. Your pampering will take place in one of four zen-like spa treatment rooms, and there are even eye-brightening rituals to help you float out looking as good as you feel.
Post-massage, the deep sofas in one of the comfortable lounges beckon. Help yourself to hot and cold drinks, including herbal teas, chai and Ayurvedic infusions. Browse the eclectic collection of books and magazines. If the weather’s fine you can sun yourself beside the lake, enjoying the natural beauty. With a maximum of only 18 day guests, you won’t have to fight over the last lounger!
But your feel-good journey doesn’t end here! Relax and swim in the super-heated pool. Its warm waters use oxygen and ultraviolet light instead of chemicals. Then slowly unwind in the sauna and stone steam room, as you drift even deeper into bliss.
The Gym & Fitness at TOR Spa Retreat
There’s no gym at TOR Spa Retreat, but that doesn’t mean you should leave your fitness goals at home. Its wellness room plays host to weekly classes like Pilates and yoga. These cost extra - and they’re popular, so you’ll need to call ahead to book your space.
The Ayurveda lifestyle encompasses exercise and spending time in nature, so why not do both at the same time? Located in the quaint village of Ickham, this is the place for picturesque walks and fresh country air. Bring your Fitbit and your trainers because it’s the ideal location for a hike in beautiful surroundings.
For a long-distance stroll, you can take a 9.5 mile circular walk which takes you from Ickham, and passes through the pretty villages of Patrixbourne, Bekesbourne, Littlebourne and Wickhambreaux, taking in five churches and many converted watermills. It also features orchards and watercourses.
Restaurants & Food at TOR Spa Retreat
How often have you wolfed down your lunch without really thinking about it? Or watched TV while having dinner, distracted from the taste and texture of the food you are eating? Ayurvedic practices emphasise eating mindfully and savouring each bite - and it’s something you’ll be doing on your TOR Spa Retreat.
Its healthy lunches aren’t just delicious, all-vegetarian (or vegan) affairs. Eaten communally with your fellow spa goers, they promote the practice of mindful eating, encouraging you to slow down and fully experience the sensational flavours. Included with spa day packages, enjoy steaming hot bowls of food, home cooked on the day, using locally-sourced or home-grown vegetables.
Here on an overnight stay that includes breakfast? Lucky you! Delivered to your door in a hamper, it’s continental-style, delicious and light. You can even eat it in bed if you wish.
Although TOR Spa Retreat doesn’t serve dinner, it has a trick up its sleeve to ensure you won’t go hungry. It’s teamed up with its neighbour, The Duke William, to offer spa room guests 15% off food and drink when visiting Monday to Friday. Cosy and quintessentially Kent, enjoy pub classics made from the best of the Garden of England.
