About
Spa butlers that cater to your every whim. Theatrical thermal experiences you just won’t find anywhere else. If you like spa retreats that let you sip on a cocktail, soak up the heat and savour some history all at the same time, Ye Olde Bell Hotel and Spa will tick all your boxes.
Perched midway between Edinburgh and London in the north Nottinghamshire village of Barnby Moor, this stunning 17th century former coaching inn has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated, retaining all of its olde world charm and crackly log fire comfort in abundance. If its oak-wood panelling and antiques could talk, they would have a tale or two to tell about some notable former patrons, too. Queen Victoria, Charlie Chaplin, Bing Crosby and even One Direction are among the famout names gracing the guestbook.
Celebrity guests aside, it’s the hotel’s newest addition that will make you feel like a VIP. Opened in 2017 and worth every penny of its multi-million pound budget, Ye Olde Bell’s spa delivers an array of quirky thermal experiences you never thought you needed but won’t be able to live without afterward. Where else will you find an indoor beach experience complete with sunshine, a toasty Alpine sauna and the UK’s first snowstorm shower to cool you off again?
With its own spa restaurant, the Herb Garden Brasserie, and Spa Butlers ensuring you don’t have to lift a manicured finger, chances are you won’t want to leave. And luckily for you, you don’t have to! The hotel has 60 individually decorated rooms, along with AA-rosette-winning fine dining at Restaurant Bar 1650 and the vibrant atmosphere of St Leger Bistro-by-the-Bar to enjoy.
If you do decide to tear yourself away, adventures abound. Ramble through Robin Hood’s Sherwood Forest, visit Yorkshire's very own Wildlife Park, cycle through the National Trust’s Clumber Park or take in the magnificent estate at Welbeck Abbey. Slightly further afield there’s historic Lincoln, with its wonderful shops, cathedral and recently-restored castle.
An effortless blend of the traditional and cutting-edge, Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa is a Nottinghamshire gem that’s waiting to be discovered. So step inside, put your robe on and your worries down as you experience this wonderful world where the everyday feels very far away.

The Spa & Wellness at Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa
Vitality pool? Check. Sauna? Check. Steam room? Check. If you feel like you’ve seen one spa you’ve seen them all, you’ve clearly not been to Ye Olde Bell Hotel. This wonderful world of wellness is at the very forefront of spa innovation in the UK, with some standout features that are destined to impress even the most seasoned spa connoisseurs.
It was the first spa in the UK to offer the groundbreaking HaloIR treatment that lets you inhale salty air while basking in infrared heat. It’s one of only three spas nationwide with a theatrical Stonebath steam room which boasts a unique clockwork mechanism.
Add to that its unique Snowstorm walkthrough (an ice fountain with settings from flurry to blizzard) and a sunlight therapy room with its own beach and deckchairs,it’s no wonder that so many consider the spa here to be a must-visit destination.
Step into reception to feel your shoulders drop. Spanning two luxurious levels, the spa balances its 11 thermal experiences downstairs with a suite of treatment and relaxation rooms upstairs. Even the rituals here offer the best of the best, with Spanish skincare brand Germaine de Capuccini providing targeted rituals and anti-ageing therapies.
No detail has been left to chance. Even before you enter the spa facilities, deluxe changing rooms invite you in with warm, snuggly dressing gowns, flip-flops, and fresh towels, ensuring your comfort from the get-go.
And when it comes to relaxation, there’s a cornucopia of lounging options. Choose from seating areas, loungers, day beds, and even heated sun loungers around the indoor/outdoor pool. For those who seek targeted relief, the pool features a circuit of water jets aimed at different body parts.
Best of all, spa butlers are always on hand to bring you a perfectly mixed cocktail. At Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa, they’ve really thought of everything.
The Gym & Fitness at Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa
Can’t live without your lunges? Don’t sweat it, because Ye Olde Bell has its own well-equipped gym. Although it’s part of the hotel rather than the spa, you can still use it free of charge if you’re here as a spa guest.
But don’t worry if you’re not a gym bunny. There are plenty of ways to get active that don’t involve running on a treadmill. Lace up your walking boots, because the National Trust Clumber Park is right on the hotel’s doorstep, offering more than 3,800 acres of picturesque parkland and gardens to hike through.
With over 20 miles of accessible paths and multi-use trails to explore, it’s also great for cyclists. No wheels? You can hire one from the park’s own Cycle Hub.
Feeling adventurous? A 30-minute drive takes you to Sherwood Forest’s own GoApe course. Its Challenge Plus course won’t just test your head for heights because this physically de
Restaurants & Food at Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa
If it’s not a spa day without savouring a gourmet treat or two, make sure you indulge in some of the delicious dining at Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa.
Herb Garden Brasserie
Here on a spa package that includes lunch? You’ll eat it at the spa’s restaurant. But expect a real treat because the food is created by talented head chef Richard Allen. And, while they may be in keeping with the healthy ethos of the spa, you can go just as indulgent or as saintly as you please.
Restaurant Bar 1650
Named as a nod to the original date of the building, this AA-rosette-winning oak-panelled restaurant boasts a jaw-dropping art deco bar in the centre. The creative menus change seasonally to keep things fresh and vibrant, but always include outstanding produce from Nottinghamshire, and neighbouring Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
St Leger Bistro
In the mood for a traditional classic such as fish and chips or a pie? More laid-back than the opulent 1650, the hotel’s bistro has a vibrant atmosphere, an all-day menu and a comfortable setting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a swimming pool at Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa Hotel?
There’s an indoor/outdoor vitality pool, but it’s more for relaxing and hydrotherapy than for perfecting your front crawl. Heated to a toasty 35 degrees, it’s 1.2 metres deep and 12 metres long and comes with indoor and outdoor air recliners, a mini air tub, a reflexology station, water massage jets and a water curtain. Enjoy being pummelled then float outside for a glass of something every bit as bubbly.
Does Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa Hotel do afternoon tea?
It sure does. The hotel’s vintage afternoon tea is served from Monday to Saturday, between 3pm and 5pm and it’s an extra special affair. Sit by the roaring fire (or in the garden if it’s sunny) and enjoy savoury canapes, open Danish finger sandwiches, golden sultana scones and homemade cakes with a choice of tea or coffee. Add a flute of champagne to make the occasion extra sparkly.
If you don’t fancy leaving your robe, you could just order scones with jam and cream to be eaten in the spa. There’s also a fully licensed bar for soft drinks, cocktails, champagne, wine, beer and spirits. All are subject to availability and individually priced.
Does Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa Hotel have its own indoor beach?
Cancel that trip to the seaside, because it really does! Called Sabbia Med, this fun treatment for two to four people replicates sunrise to sunset in a 30 minute cycle. Feel the sand between your toes as you bask in the low levels of UV, to boost your vitamin D without harming your skin.
You’ll find the Sabbia Med experience upstairs in the spa, alongside the treatment rooms. If it’s not included as part of your package and you want to try it (and believe us, you do!) you’ll need to pay extra (subject to availability).
Does Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa provide you with robes and slippers?
They provide robes and flip flops in a number of sizes. The flip flops are yours to keep and the robes can be purchased if you wish.

Several prefer the lodges in the courtyard where they can park at the door and have direct access to the gym. What will your favourite room be?
What time is check-in and check-out at Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa Hotel?
For overnight stays at Ye Olde Bell, check-in is at 2pm on your arrival day and you can check out at any time up to 11am on the day of your departure. Not an early riser? A later checkout of up until 1pm can be arranged. For spa days, arrival times vary so check your booking confirmation.

Is Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa family-friendly?
It is. While treatments and thermal experiences in the spa are usually only available for those aged 16 or over, they do make an exception on selected dates during the school holidays.
