About

Transformative treatments. Awe-inspiring spaces. Incredible wellness experiences. The ultimate in London luxury. If you’re looking for total rest and relaxation in the midst of the big city, look no further than Akasha Holistic Wellbeing.

Based on a Sanskrit word that encapsulates the balance in nature between earth, water, fire and air, Akasha is an ethos this boutique spa takes to heart. More than just indulgent, a trip here is transformational for your health and happiness - your body, mind and soul will never have felt so aligned!

Breathe in the scented air and enjoy every minute in this palace of pampering. There’s a tranquil 18m pool, thermal suite and nine blissful treatment rooms. But massages and poolside lounging are just the beginning of your journey here, because this wellness retreat offers so much more.

In fact, with so many once-in-a-lifetime wellness experiences to try, even seasoned spa connoisseurs won’t fail to be impressed. Not only does the spa have its own roster of experts trained in yoga, karate, acupuncture, meditation and healing, it’s also home to London’s only Watsu-pools, a place for water-based shiatsu and a total must-try.

This urban oasis nestles beneath the Hotel Café Royal, one of London’s finest five-star properties. Polished and glossy with spectacular grand architecture that contrasts with modern decor, the building has a back story that’s the stuff of legends. It was once the famous Café Royal, with Churchill, Muhammad Ali and David Bowie making up its illustrious former clientele.

Right on the edge of both Piccadilly Circus and Regent Street, Theatreland and Soho are on the hotel’s fashionable doorstep. The delights of Mayfair, Oxford Street and Bond Street are just moments away, with more big brands and designer stores than you can wave your credit card at.

But when you’re tired of shopping and sightseeing, know that the hushed ambience of Akasha Holistic Wellbeing awaits you. Step off buzzing Piccadilly and into the Hotel Cafe Royals art deco lobby. Pad down the spiral staircase and feel your shoulders drop thanks to mood lighting, restorative sounds and uplifting aromas. Then let tension drift away at this intimate and memorable spa destination.

The Spa & Wellness at Akasha Holistic Wellbeing

Whether you're in need of a mind-soothing massage, transformative facial or a peaceful pool day with friends, Akasha Holistic Wellbeing has got you covered. This hidden haven is one of the capital's hottest wellness retreats. And with never-seen-before rituals designed to balance body and mind, it’s no wonder this is one of London’s most talked about spas.

Leave the buzz of Regent Street behind as you descend the spiral staircase into this temple of tranquility. After a spot of London sightseeing, there really is no better way to relax than time spent in this subterranean wonderland. Slip into a luxuriously soft robe and slippers, and pad to the relaxation area where your urban spa experience begins.

Water baby? The spa’s bijou wet area beckons. This ode to the healing element of water offers an 18m azure lap pool, a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Immerse yourself in the heated, bubbly water, then lie back on a poolside lounger

With a fusion of ancient and contemporary traditions, rituals here combine shiatsu, ayurveda, reflexology, aromatherapy and reiki for a one-of-a-kind experience that will leave you feeling your blissed-out best. Feel pampered and pummelled in the Hammam or let the Vichy Shower work out your knots.

But because this is about your holistic health, you’ll find beautiful spaces, dedicated to mind and movement classes. Led by world-class practitioners, there’s so much on offer, from yoga to meditation and sound healing.

After your class, pad along to the tranquil, relaxation room for a herbal tea while you drift deeper into bliss.

The Gym & Fitness at Akasha Holistic Wellbeing

Revolutionise the way you workout at Akasha. Yes, you’ll find a spacious gym that’s undoubtedly one of the best-equipped in London. But unlike other hotel fitness centres, there’s more than just treadmills and weights on offer here. This 360-degree wellness centre takes a holistic view of the health of your body, mind and soul.

Alongside the 18m lap pool, Akasha’s 300sqm gym offers cutting-edge LifeFitness equipment with personal entertainment centres and huge touch screens. Forget bright strip lighting. Here, changing LED lights twinkle and pulse, matching the super swish feel of the most exclusive boutique gyms in the capital.

Or take a class led by expert instructors who are simply the best in their field. Choose from a weekly schedule of functional training, assisted stretching, karate box combat and circuits. Want to feel more zen? There’s a whole alphabet of different yogas to try, from dynamic through to Vinyasa and Yin, along with sound bath healing and electronic music meditation.

Akasha also has a number of wellness experts it can call on for private sessions. Alongside some of London’s best known personal trainers you’ll find a spiritual mentor, aquatic bodywork practitioner, osteopath, acupuncturist and physio.

Restaurants & Food at Akasha Holistic Wellbeing

The spa has its own Lounge Bar for healthy and nourishing dishes. Beautifully presented, the food here mirrors the holistic ethos of the gym. Its Four Element menu has been meticulously designed with ingredients that reflect the essence of earth, air, fire and water so that you get the perfect balance.

Here for an extra special occasion? Nothing says celebration like Michelin-starred dining and the Hotel Café Royal’s restaurant has not one but two of them. Alex Dilling at Hotel Café Royal secured this grand accolade just six months after opening its doors, so you know you’re in for something special.

With just a 34-seat capacity, booking is absolutely essential, but oh-so worth it. Enter the elegant dining room, adorned with silk panels, and relish in innovative French cuisine through an eight-course tasting menu or a weekday set lunch.

The Hotel Café Royal also has innovative ways to cater for those with a sweet tooth. An award-winning afternoon tea is served with a flourish in the ornate, Grade II listed Grill Room, a place which was once a favourite haunt of Oscar Wilde. Or try Cakes & Bubbles, created by Michelin-starred Spanish chef Albert Adrià and offering a parade of sweet treats washed down with an extensive menu of Champagne.

Probably one of the best spas I have been to. We experienced the Champagne afternoon tea experience and felt totally spoilt and well looked after. Pure decadence. The massage was wonderful and the pool was so relaxing. A lovely birthday treat in the heart of London. Go on spoil yourself. We'll definitely be back soon.

What an amazing place! So peaceful. The team was very helpful from the beginning to the end of our stay. All the girls (at the reception and spa) were lovely. The place very quiet and clean it was almost empty in the morning. The massage was incredible. Highly recommend this spa. The whole experience was amazing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Akasha Holistic Wellbeing at the Hotel Café Royal do afternoon tea?

While it’s not currently on offer at the spa, the hotel itself serves afternoon tea. And to say that afternoon tea here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience might just be understating it.

Why? Because it’s served in the hotel’s jaw-dropping Grade-II listed Grill Room. Dating back to 1965, the glittering gold Rococo gilding, shimmering mirrored walls and frescoes are almost too much to take in. You’ll feel like you’re sitting in a life-sized jewellery box.

This feast for the eyes deserves an afternoon tea to match. With a jazz pianist to accompany you, sink into a crimson velvet chair and enjoy course after decadent course. Begin with an amuse bouche, move on to savouries served on warm, fluffy brioche, cleanse your palate with a refreshing sorbet before it’s time for the main event - scones and cakes made by the in-house patisserie team.

Is there a swimming pool at Akasha Holistic Wellbeing at the Hotel Café Royal?

There is! Swimming is so good for the soul, particularly when you’re in an 18m long lap pool enhanced with mood lighting, uplifting aromas and tranquil sounds, right in the heart of the city!

Is there accommodation at Akasha Holistic Wellbeing at the Hotel Café Royal?

Tempted to turn your spa day into a spa stay? You’re in luck. There are some 160 guest rooms and suites at the Hotel Café Royal. The 160 rooms, including 53 suites, are all beautifully designed with luxe features that give it a slick, modern feel, along with views over the rooftops of Soho, or all the way down Regent Street.

Even standard category Deluxe rooms are exquisite here. Expect luxurious marble bathrooms, rooms in the eaves with sleek oak panelling and underfloor heating keeping things cosy.

Is Akasha Holistic Wellbeing at the Hotel Café Royal accessible?

It is. The spa and gym are accessible by lifts from guest rooms, while the two lower levels of the spa can be reached by internal lifts within the spa. There’s an accessible changing room that includes a shower and toilet on the reception level of the spa, too.

Where is Akasha Holistic Wellbeing at the Hotel Café Royal?

This subterranean oasis has a highly desirable location that puts you right at the centre of the action. You’ll find Akasha Holistic Wellbeing nestled in the basement of the sumptuous five-star Hotel Café Royal, less than a minute’s walk from Piccadilly Circus.

Because it’s right at the crossroads of some of London’s most fabulous locations, you won’t be short of things to do. Indulge in some of the world’s best shopping on Regent Street, soak up the glamour and history of Mayfair, or enjoy the buzz of Soho. The historic department store Fortnum & Masons is under half a kilometre away. Rumour has it they invented the Scotch egg so it would be rude not to try the delicacy while you’re in town.

Is the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing at the Hotel Café Royal family-friendly?

While children under 16 can’t have a spa treatment, the hotel itself is perfect for your little urban adventurers. There are activities and a playroom laid on in the summer holidays, family-friendly rooms and custom children’s menus for picky eaters.

The hotel offers toys, puzzles, games, and books to entertain little ones in the room, and kids aged five to 16 can splash about in the Akasha pool as long as they’re with an adult.

Your swimming session needs to be booked in advance, but children’s hours at the pool are Monday to Friday 9am to 10.30am and 4pm to 5:.0pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 11am and 4pm to 6pm.

Is Akasha Holistic Wellbeing at the Hotel Café Royal pet-friendly?

While the spa itself isn’t dog-friendly, the rest of the hotel is fabulously welcoming to canine companions of up to 12kg in weight. Four-legged friends of overnight guests can stay with them in guest rooms and are permitted to join their owners in restaurants and bars. If you’re here on a spa package, dogs are accepted within the hotel’s restaurants and bars at the discretion of management.
